SS Bennie’s Road Food. A Bit About Me…. Archive for November, 2007. In Praise Of The Pig. This originally appeared in my LiveJournal Blog in a slightly different form…. Is there any more gloriously noble, yet humble, versatile and above all, tasty, animal than the pig? I can answer that without hesitation with a resounding, NO! My grandfather (my mom’s dad) raised hogs, peanuts and tobacco. I have seen sausage being made and I still eat it. I have always said that there is nothing in the world wrong with...

SS Bennie’s Road Food. A Bit About Me…. What Have You Been Eating Lately Bennie? It has been an interesting couple of weeks on the culinary front here in Washington. I have had several interesting meals. Most were excellent, some less than stellar. There is much to report so let’s get started shall we? Kitty’s burrito came out. It was the size of a pillow. You could nap on this thing. Huge and stuffed full of rice, beans, vegetable and pulled pork. She cut into it and offer me a bite, whi...About that ti...

SS Bennie’s Road Food. A Bit About Me…. I just returned from the Tennessee State Fair. Last year, the chocolate pecan pie I entered into the baking competition won second place. This year, my pie didn’t fare very well and finished with no ribbons. However, for the second year in a row, my Bread and Butter Pickles won the First Prize Blue Ribbon. So, yet again, I have. Pissed off a lot of blue haired grannies! Responses to “Victory Is Mine”. Feed for this Entry. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

More mushrooms | Cooking from the market
https://marketcook.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/more-mushrooms
Cooking from the market. Me and my fresh mouth. November 11, 2008 at 9:23 pm. I’m a fool for mushrooms: Sauteed, stir-fried, stuffed and baked, sliced raw in salads – heck, I even have a residual childhood fondness for canned mushrooms, in certain applications (on pizza, for instance). Don’t be put off by the long process description. It’s easy to do, it just takes a while (or a multiple skillets) to make a big batch. Pan-roasted mushrooms make a great side dish; they’re heavenly piled on top of a ...
Sweet corn, the next day | Cooking from the market

Cooking from the market. Me and my fresh mouth. Sweet corn, the next day. August 28, 2011 at 6:28 pm. We’ve hit what I think of as the trifecta of harvest-season perfection: Tomatoes, sweet corn and peaches. Lots of other stuff, too, but I could (and at this time of year, often do) live on tomatoes, sweet corn and peaches. Joy of Cooking,. Circa 1964 (the cookbook my mother sent away with me to college). If you love corn, you should try these; they’re quick, easy and really delicious. Melt butter in a me...
