The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Session 23 – A Dave Clark Five Day. And so it came to pass that on Friday 22nd May I headed back to the silvers/tench pool a little later than usual as I had to attend a doctor’s appointment at 0840 and so I didn’t arrive there until 0930 but I was quickly set up to use my usual lift method and was making my first cast of the day at 1000 having baited the swim with the usual base particle mix. And I fished the same swim 3 times in 14 days fi...

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Session 21 A Potpourri Of Fish. Tuesday, 12th May, and I’m back on my usual swim opposite the island at the club’s silvers tench and silvers pool making my first cast of the day at 0700 after having done the usual feeding and tackling and preparation initially. A part of the standard shotting. In my case, this shot is usually the equivalent of the overshot load. And the final tally for the day was:. 2 chub – both around 6oz – 8oz. So can I j...

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Session 38 – Tenching Again. Tuesday 11th August saw me back at the pool, same swim as my previous session. Again, two ledger rods on buzzers, one with a size 12 hook baited with worm tipped with mid-body cross-hooked maggot to prevent the worm escaping the barbless hook, the other with a size 10 hook tried with luncheon meat and sweetcorn baits. Also interesting is that ALL the fish again came to worm/maggot, neither meat not sweetcorn attr...

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Session 26 – Carping On. Friday 12th June 2015 and Liz and I were off on our first carp session of the year and so first (and only) stop of the day was one of the club’s local carp pools. We both caught – although we had nothing of size, the largest fish of the day falling to Liz at 3lb 14oz – and Liz also caught several small bream. So in chronological order of catching:. 3lb 6oz Common Carp – Steve. 2lb 8oz Common Carp – Steve. Jeeeeez, th...

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Prepping For Session 63 Tomorrow. Oh well, could be fun tomorrow snow forecast from noon in the West Midlands although more likely it will be rain where I’ll be. Anyway, off piking again but with a complete change of tactics for me…. However, I hear tale after tale of pike attacking the silvers of other anglers when being landed and that the better pike there also are being taken on livebaits. Session 62 Another Pike Session. Anyway, I arriv...

Friday 17th July 2015 I returned to Valley View with Liz on a day forecast to be dry albeit windy the dry bit was slightly wrong in that we did have a few drops of drizzle but the windy bit was SO true actually quite a heavy breeze but we chose our swims accordingly so that a line of bushy conifers lay at our backs between us and the main force. The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Monthly Archives: June 2015. Session 30 – Delayed! Anyway, I put the charger on the battery asap but it took 10 hours of charging before the car would start during which time I’d ordered a new battery anyway just in case and, as I had to await delivery of that today, I had to give up my plans to get to the waterside. So, today, I’m going to watch ‘Big Fish’ ( http:/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0319061/. Again and try not to cry at the end for once!

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Session 34 – Back To Big Pool. Tuesday 21st July and I was back on the banks of Dudmaston Hall’s Big Pool but in a new swim – previously I’d fished the same swim but this time I decided to wander further along the bank. I actually started fishing at around 0730 and was almost immediately having bites and soon landed the first fish of the day – a perch of around 8oz. Then over the course of the rest of the day I landed several perch...The 4lb...

The blog of a less-than-average angler striving for excellence! Monthly Archives: July 2015. Session 35 – Return To Big Pool. Friday 24th July saw a return to Dudmaston Hall’s Big Pool for the second visit of the week. I arrived at the car park at around 0615, unpacked the car and headed to the waterside – targeting the same swim as the earlier session of the week. I noted another car on the car park – and spotted the angler on the opposite bank when I got to the water. Session 34 – Back To Big Pool.
