Thursday, September 28, 2006. Strings- This family of strings takes up more than half of the orchestra. The instruments look the same but are very diverse in size and sound. The stings are made of gut, steel, or nylon. Besides the harp, all of the instuments have curved, hollow bodies and have a neck. The strings go all the way from the pegs to the tailpiece. In a higher pitched instrument you need to blow more to keep a constant rate of sound because higher sound waves travel a lot faster. I based this all from what I have learned in music and science.
