reunion with Cecilia and Chad in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai, October 8 - 16, 2004. Pepa hadn't seen Cecilia and Chad since January 2004 and I hadn't seen them since April 2003 so we were all pretty excited counting down to meeting in Thailand. They got a month off work, Pepa's school had a week off and I moved heaven and earth and the Canadian International Development Agency, to make this happen. Pepa and I stopped in Bangkok to get medical checkups which we both passed, healthy as horses. A resevoir in the grounds of the Summer Palace. A wat in Pai.

Visiting the char people - September 2 - 4, 2003. We drove up to the Jamuna bridge then had to go way west almost to Bogra to approach the study area from a direction that has roads passable in the flood. Bangladesh is a big floodplain so roads are levees built up with material that doesn't resist erosion well. We hired a boat and set off up the river. Planting aman rice on a char.
