Si-Kunda is a village located 200km from the coast and tourist areas. There is just one road up country from the coast on the south side of the river, most of it unmade as far as Soma, which is the nearest town to Si-Kunda. To reach the village which is several miles from Soma, you travel across some mudflats and then along a track through the undergrowth. There are no modern amenities in the village, and water has to be collected from the wells. There is not a large variety of animal wildlife in the are...

Any donation, no matter how large or small really does make a difference. We at Friends of Si-Kunda endeavour to make all donated monies go as far as possible to help in the community. By making a monthly donation, however small, helps us to continue to supply the schools and families with the support that they need. For example, for just £6 per month for a year, we are able to supply 600 exercise books. We are also planning to provide text books for the schools in the near future.

We first became involved with Si-Kunda village when my husband and I first visited The Gambia a few years ago. A friend of ours Sankung Jammeh invited us to go with him to stay in the village for a few days, he had spent his childhood in Si-Kunda and it is where most of his family live. Being based in the UK it is logistically very difficult to take on and manage projects in Si-Kunda so we aim to achieve realistic goals, all of which have been very successful so far. Sankung has proven to be invaluab...
