Who are the Farmers. Who are the Farmers. The farmers we work with are part of the Karen people group. This means they are not native Thai, and have a different culture, language and lifestyle than the Thai (read more about them here. They have a long tradition of subsistence farming and have adapted well to growing coffee. Who are the Farmers. It is 2007 when Silaa Coffee starts to produce their first coffee. Seedlings are given/sold to farmers in neighboring villages to join the production of coffee. Cooperating farmers are trained in organic practices, harvesting techniques for coffee and the best ways to store the cherries (from which the coffee bean comes).
