The Silk Road
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Monday, July 2, 2007. We finally reached the Silk Road, or at least part of it. Unfortunately, not the smoothest start, more like The Corduroy Road, but as Gal mentioned It was probably more difficult doing it in ancient times. Sorry for the messy post, but it was a messy part of the trip. This was done in Zhongdian, a very touristy place. Our "last" option was Urumqi, but we didn't want to take the chance of being declined and getting thrown out of the country, when we need t...

The Escape From Kunming
The Escape From Kunming. The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Travelers tend to 'get stuck' in places. There are many reasons for that, but in Kunming you just 'get stuck'. We planned on leaving the day before, but had a few more technical stuff to take care of, laziness of the previous day. It was 11:00, and we decided it'll be too late to pack and leave, so we stayed the day. Where are the markets? The dumplings on every street corner? The 3'rd world country 'buzz'? It's been 2 weeks!

First Few Weeks
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Thursday, December 21, 2006. Finally, we managed to open a text document! All they have here on the computer are stupid video games. we are in Khon. The "big" city. celebrating our first 1,000 km. no Word, so forgive us for the spelling. Due to technical reasons. We decided to stay in town, enjoying the big city buzz, and giving our muscles a first days' rest. Our bike did funny noises, so a local bike technician recommended. Us to replace the chains, and surprise. Bring their...

Georgia
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. To the Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Welcome to Georgia 05/10/07. We finally reached Georgia. We've talked about Georgia so many times, Rami mentioning that he is waiting to reach there, every month or so, even when in China and earlier. Coming to think of it, even back home, Rami was talking about stories of travelers in Georgia. Don't they ask for money? They won't even hear about it! They are a proud people! You sleep for free! And we'll be entering Geo...

Goodbye Central-Asia
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Tuesday, September 25, 2007. We're sitting on the upper deck of the ferry to Baku, staring at the endless sea (which ends in Azerbaijan). Who would have believed we'd reach so far! Maybe only Erez from Beeri ;-). Even Gal didn't believe, at the time, that we'll reach the Caucasus. Only after the mountains of West-Sichuan, China, did she understand she can cycle anywhere, and that Turkey is on the way. Gal was bit by a dog. Coffee with the captain and his first officer. The pea...

Goodbye China
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Thursday, July 26, 2007. 26/07/07 - Goodbye China. After 4.5 months, we left China. We were excited at the border, it surprised us. For some time now we were ready to leave. We were tired of too many things. We were tired of the bureaucracy; from the constant was of visa-extensions, to the small things, like entering our censored blog or even sending a CD with digital pictures, by post. Communism also killed religion. There is no religion in China. None at all! And on the Chin...

Goodbye Thailand
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Friday, January 12, 2007. We’re back in Nong-Khai, soon to cross the friendship bridge to Laos. As usual, sitting on the river bank, sipping our beer, enjoying the sunset (inform us when you’re tired of sunset beer tales/pics, reading this at work). We have a list of “things to do”, which Gal keeps away from Rami (so our day will not be too busy); today we bought a spare tire. So, we have time to write our thoughts/conclusions of Thailand. We haven’t seen tourists for ov...

Goodbye Vietnam
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Saturday, March 10, 2007. Due to the concern for Ramis. Hernia) and the future of the trip, we were not really. In the mood of being 'tourists' in Hanoi. We were a whole week in the city, in ' Kims. Do' hotel, a cute. Little hotel, which took us as 'part of the family'. They even got used to the idea of having 2 bicycles in their kitchen, even tough they refused, first. And in the small alleys, eating on every second food stall and drinking extremely. We finally saw food.

Ho Chi Ming trail
Ho Chi Ming trail. The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Thursday, March 1, 2007. Traffic in Vietnam is the worst we’ve seen! Much worse than Bangkok, worse than riding a motorcycle all around India, even worse than the costal highway in Israel on weekends! Millions of 10-year old maturity on scooters, zigzagging, thinking it’s a computer game, and crossing a junction is a bonus. Very quickly we removed the flags from our trailers, because the locals thought it was part of the game. A new road, 2 lanes (wow! We're...

Kyrgyzia
The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Saturday, August 25, 2007. Welcome to Kyrgyzstan 26/07/07. We crossed the Chinese border through a concrete building. Our luggage was X-rayed, our mechanic tools were inspected (due to the X-ray), and we said good-bye, Gal with tears in her eyes. Sort of a normal border crossing. It looked like an army base from the 50's. Small wood shacks, with asbestos roofs, junk everywhere, dirt roads – a mess. Eater is being brought by tractors from a river 11km away! Sometimes, during th...

laos, first 3 weeks
Laos, first 3 weeks. The Silk Road Bicycle Trip. Saturday, February 3, 2007. Please forgive us for the very short post on the last two weeks. we were not in a writing mood, maynly due to Laos being very touristic. Another reason is Tom, who joined our team for the last two weeks. But we hope youll enjoy the pictures and remarks. Were 3 weeks in Laos, back in Vientiane, sitting in our local coffee shop, drinking excellent Lao-coffee, all excited about Gals’ first solid - - - - - in 5 days. A week later Ra...
