Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: Money on my mind
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015/08/money-on-my-mind.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Saturday, August 1, 2015. Money on my mind. It is unusual, for a strict grammarian such as me, to willfully flout a syntactical rule, but I do, almost always, position the dollar sign after. The numbers in my writing (e.g. 20$), rather than before. When you read a price, the word "dollar" (or substitute any type of currency) comes after the amount. e.g. This pineapple costs four dollars.". Naturally, you don't want to have to write ...

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: Beach Bummer
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015/06/beach-bummer.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Friday, June 5, 2015. I went to the beach last weekend. People really love beaches. Supposedly, the epitome of a good holiday is to be lounging on the beach with a drink in your hand and your toes in the sand. Thus, is it heresy to say that I really don't like the beach? Now that I'm well aware that sun damage is forever, I have to be oh-so-much-more careful. When walking from place to place, but that becomes less effective when at ...

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: July 2015
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Sunday, July 5, 2015. Macaroni and cheese from Cafe Deluxe, and an announcement. So, I thusly rate this macaroni and cheese with just one happy noodle, because it tasted fine, not earth-shattering. The Mood Noodle rating system. Is not based on a fixed scale, but is a much more subjective system based on what makes me happy and what makes me sad. Any number of happy noodles and comparatively few sad noodles constitute a good rating.

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: That thing I call labyrinthitis
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015/06/that-thing-i-call-labyrinthitis.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Thursday, June 25, 2015. That thing I call labyrinthitis. It's been over a year since I wrote about labyrinthitis. It takes away my appetite. It ruins my ability to concentrate. It makes me feel sleepy all the time, even when I'm not remotely tired. It is, in short, a minor annoyance that becomes a major distraction. But never fear—I think I know how to beat it! I think it's triggered by dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant!

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: Compare and despair
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015/06/compare-and-despair.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Don't even get me started on the 2-car garage, the semi-finished storage space above that, and the attic and basement we never bothered to do anything with because the rest of the house was plenty big enough, thank you very much! Oh, and it was brand new when we moved in. In my old home, I never would have had to worry about spilling out of my space. Fix a leak in the basement. Replace the air conditioner.

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: Much Ado Over Due
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015/06/much-ado-over-due.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Monday, June 8, 2015. Much Ado Over Due. Like many people who speak English, I say "due to" a lot. Recently, for example, on my eBay listings, I added a note: "Due to the Christmas holiday, handling time on this item may be extended." According to grammarians, this is an incorrect usage. So what to do? Line By Line: How to Improve Your Own Writing. So I (and you—come on, I know you like to start sentences with "due to" too! But I st...

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: March 2015
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Sunday, March 29, 2015. 2 Icelandic packaged cookies. Fittingly for a Giant Cookie, the name of this one is quite a mouthful (true of many things in Iceland), but my Google Translate skills reveal its meaning to be something along the lines of "Chocolate bit cake". I am beginning to think Icelandic does not have a word for cookie. This cookie weighed 90 g and cost 249 kr. (or 1.83$), so it cost 2.03¢ per gram. It did not perform wel...

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: Can't Get No Sleep
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2014/01/cant-get-no-sleep.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Sunday, January 19, 2014. Can't Get No Sleep. Cough syrup is an experiment for me. I've never really used it before, mainly because the thought of swilling some sugary concoction of chemicals makes me want to gag, and I prefer doing things the natural way (for the record, slippery elm doesn't help). But after whooping it up for the past couple of days, I decided to bite the bullet and bought some sugar-free. My Airbnb houseguests wa...

About Val's Galore
http://www.valsgalore.com/about
Val's Galore is the Internet home of Valerie Hoy that is, me! While there are many hats I wear (my pink fedora being a personal favorite), I am probably best known for my work in web design. If you came here to find out more about what I can do for you in that arena, take a look at my portfolio. And check out my list of freelance services. If you’d prefer a longer read, I can oblige. Others, the ones I consider hobbies more than a profession, are scattered throughout the Silly Side. According to the Merr...

Valʼs Galorious Galaxy: February 2015
http://valsgalore.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Star-spangled, sparkly, (and occasionally very dark) musings by Valerie. Thursday, February 19, 2015. Truffle Mac and Cheese from Screwtop Wine Bar. On the way home from our Valentine's weekend trip to the mountains of Virginia, my boyfriend and I stopped at Screwtop Wine Bar. I wasn't too impressed with the lasagna either—it could have been greatly improved if the bits of spinach and artichoke were bigger, and it had been browned more around the edges—so all in all, my opinions of dining at ...Surely yo...
