Browsing social media this morning, I found myself surrounded by radicalism. I stumbled across the comments of a friend who was complaining about bankers (in fact he was wishing them dead), an article by Russell Brand in which Fox News were the enemy and then something by another friend describing Facebook's latest attempts to manipulate us into believing something (I didn't bother to check what that thing was). Side of this divide. Do they appeal to the cognitive miser in us?

Is it possible to know too much? Any non-teleological account of the history of thought must, by definition, demonstrate the contingent nature of all thought (i.e. all thought could have been something other than it was - and different from what it currently is). As soon as we realise this, what grounds do we have for expecting anything we say to be taken seriously? There’s only one problem with this - aren’t. Criteria also only contingently present?

Spiked and john gray. This is my response to a review of John Gray's. The Silence of Animals. The review was written by Anthony McCarthy with the title "The Shallow Nihilism of John Gray". A long list of disagreements that reflect the reviewer's distaste and horror at Gray's ideas without really outlining why. It reads more like "I don't like what he's saying so he must be wrong", rather than pointing out genuine contradictions or incorrect assertions. What's wrong with praising Freud?
