Friday, 28 November 2008. I have now discovered how to embed videos from YouTube into my blog. This is exciting stuff, I'm sure you'll agree. To celebrate, here is the awesome trailer for Pixar's new movie,. It looks incredible and will be the first Pixar film to be released in 3-D. Thursday, 27 November 2008. I am hoping that this ridiculous festive gesture will help me rediscover a bit of that ol' Christmas magic. Excitingly, we are coinciding this Christmas dash with a Carnival reunion down in London ...

Simon Fairbanks: August 2011
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, 27 August 2011. Returns tonight after its mid-season haitus! We last left the Doctor having discovered that Amy and Rory's baby is going to grow up to be River Song and therefore (probably) the Doctor's future wife. The baby was then kidnapped by the evil Eye-Patch Lady and the Doctor whizzed off to get her back. And that was that. Three months off. But In Moffat We Trust. All that matters is that. It's going to be great. And it starts in five minutes. Geronimo! Wednesday, 24 August 2011. Laura...

Simon Fairbanks: April 2009
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 16 April 2009. Came with high expectations. This is reportedly Clint Eastwood’s last film as an actor (he will continue to direct) and so fans had high hopes for his swan-song. And aside from a few quibbles, this is the great film that you would expect it to be. The laughs are welcome because the film can be dark at times (the son is beaten, the daughter is raped) but it wouldn’t be a Clint Eastwood film if there weren’t bad guys to punish. And the punishment is genius – a...Not sure his singin...

Simon Fairbanks: March 2009
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 20 March 2009. Further to my review of Watchmen (below), I have found this awesome youtube parody. Imagine Watchmen as an 1980s Saturday morning TV show. This is what you would get. Thursday, 19 March 2009. Has now stolen the crown from. 8230; I officially have a new favourite film of 2009! Was three hours of pure popcorn-crunching, ass-kicking, thought-provoking, gross-out, gravely-voiceover, slickly-directed, iconic viewing. Rorshach is the most anti of anti-heroes committed to the screen since.

Simon Fairbanks: REVIEW: Immortals
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2011/11/review-immortals.html
Monday, 28 November 2011. There has been a recent sub-genre of films which are best categorised as style-over-story. These are best recognised for combining a simplistic videogame plot with truly stunning, unique visuals. They vary in quality:. Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Strives to be one of them. Unfortunately, director Tarsem Singh doesn’t quite manage this. To get the inevitable. Comparison out of the way,. There are two main problems. The film is not hopeless. There is a complimentary mix of gri...

Simon Fairbanks: My Top Five Films of 2011
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-top-five-films-of-2011.html
Wednesday, 28 December 2011. My Top Five Films of 2011. I’ve started writing a Top Five every year. I only include films that have been released in 2011 (incidentally, the best film I have actually seen this year was 2004’s Before Sunset. And there are some big films that I haven’t seen so I cannot give an opinion on Melancholia. Equally, there are lots of great films that didn’t make the cut, namely Black Swan. And my controversial triple-bill of guilty pleasures: Scream 4. 4) THE KING’S SPEECH. But her...

Simon Fairbanks: October 2011
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 28 October 2011. REVIEW: Midnight in Paris. At the age of 75, Woody Allen is showing no sign of slowing down. This month, the veteran writer and director returned with. It contains all the staples of a Woody Allen classic – romance, quick wit, lengthy focus on forming and deteriorating relationships – but it also introduces a new twist: fantasy. Determined not to be left behind by Hollywood, Allen has cast rising stars (Tom Hiddleston, Marion Cotillard), established A-list names (Kathy Bates, Mic...

Simon Fairbanks: October 2008
http://simonfairbanks.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 8 October 2008. Whilst helping my girlfriend move to Birmingham this weekend, I couldn't resist a trip back to the Guild to inspect the new Guild toilets. These toilets were the first phase of a three-year building redevelopment which I worked on during my year in office so I was more than a little bit excited about checking them out. And whoop, they were awesome! A lovely new blue colour. More cubicle space so you don't have to edge around the toilet door when closing it. Dropping by the hote...

Monday, 15 December 2008. Hallelujah: Reclaiming the Christmas No.1. I discovered an incredible Facebook campaign this morning which hopes to reclaim the Christmas No.1 from Simon Cowell's X-Factor bandwagon. The 'Jeff Buckley for Xmas No.1'. Group aims to rival X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke's cover version of Leonard Cohen's 1984 song 'Hallelujah' by urging music fans to download Jeff Buckley's superior 1994 cover version of 'Hallelujah' instead! You can join the group here. Wednesday, 10 December 2008.
