Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog: Why don't we peer review our teaching?

http://simonpbates.blogspot.com/2008/08/why-dont-we-peer-review-our-teaching.html

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog. Thursday, August 14, 2008. Why don't we peer review our teaching? I have to give a lecture in a couple of months as a result of getting a chair, which I have chosen to title " What Do I Know About Physics Education? So, I was thinking : if the standard by which our research is examined and assessed is the peer review of articles, grants etc, why doesn't the same hold for the other side of the coin: our teaching? Visible for all to see in all aspects of what is done.

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog: August 2008

http://simonpbates.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog. Thursday, August 14, 2008. It's that time of year again. When exam results come out for entrance to Universities. The BBC news site has an interesting video on the pluses and minuses of the A-level system. I agree with bits of both the views here. Http:/ news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7559519.stm. Further down the same article it states. Last year, 25.3% of A-level entries in the UK were awarded an A grade, with 96.9% of entries graded from A to E (pass). This morning,...

http://simonpbates.blogspot.com/2008/07/snowshoes-in-july.html

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog. Monday, July 21, 2008. All work and no play" as the saying goes, so we spent this weekend doing the Tourist Thing. On Sunday we cycled downtown and took the SeaBus over to North Vancouver and then up to Grouse Mountain. The main trail up - the Grouse Grind - was heaving, even at 10am, so we opted for the ' road less taken. As some American poet once wrote), the BC Mountaineering Club trail. It'll start snowing again in a couple of months time! Posted by Simon Bates.

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog. Saturday, July 26, 2008. I went to give a talk today at SFU (that's about it for the Physics and. Education part of this one! After coming back across town I grabbed. My bike and headed downtown to the Art Gallery for something I had. Previously been told about: Critical Mass - where many hundereds, or. Even thousands, of cyclists take to the streets to remind the drivers fo. Vancouver that cycling is a Big Thing in the city. The route is not. Other than being held up...

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog: Institutional change and why it is so slow

http://simonpbates.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-have-been-following-blogging.html

Simon Bates' Physics Education Blog. Saturday, July 26, 2008. Institutional change and why it is so slow. I have been following the blogging activities about the AAPT meeting. Held this week in Edmonton (from afar still, but not quite as afar as usual.) I found loads of interesting stuff on this blog. Particularly the last post on 'Twisting the Ivory Tower'. Also interesting to see that the MIT students when first introduced to TEAL. In their E&M class petitioned against its introduction. Whilst enjoying...

Lee's Blog: Square Roots Using a Factor Tree

http://theblogoflee.blogspot.com/2010/03/square-roots-using-factor-tree.html

Monday, March 29, 2010. Square Roots Using a Factor Tree. The square root of 18 is not a perfect square but there is a simplified way of writing this.First you need to do a prime factorization of the number 18 which looks like the image to the left. Once you have the prime factors of 2, 3 and 3 you put two times three times three in the square root. Any pair of numbers makes that number appear on the outside of the square root making it look like this. February 8, 2012 at 4:48 PM. View my complete profile.

Lee's Blog: Dividing Numbers With Decimals

http://theblogoflee.blogspot.com/2010/03/dividing-numbers-with-decimals.html

Friday, March 26, 2010. Dividing Numbers With Decimals. This process is far easier than it seems. I am going to show you a simple two step process on how this is done. Now the numbers you have been given to divide is 2 divided by .25. Do this division now. So 200 divided by 25 is 8, making your answer to the problem being 8. Here is a Video on some problem that might be a little bit harder than 2 divided by .25. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Mathematics Education Research Blog. I am Lee Thompson an...

Lee's Blog: Writing in Scientific Notation

http://theblogoflee.blogspot.com/2010/03/writing-in-scientific-notation.html

Monday, March 29, 2010. Writing in Scientific Notation. There are many times in which writing a large number over and over can be very tedious. Scientist got sick of writing 93,955,807 miles every time that wanted to say the distance between the Earth and Sun. So scientific notation was created. It also works for very small numbers as well. Here is a short video in which it shows the process of putting numbers into scientific notation. Maria H. Andersen. April 25, 2010 at 11:19 AM.

Friday, March 26, 2010. Multiplying Numbers With Decimals. Multiplying numbers that contain decimals is not much different than multiplying numbers that do not have decimals. Here is a short but sweet video that shows you how to do this. PS Don't mind the enthusiasm of the woman in the video. Multiplying Numbers With Decimals. April 23, 2010 at 1:08 PM. Friday, March 26, 2010. Adding and Subtracting Numbers With Decimals. Adding and subtracting numbers that contain decimals is just as easy as doing any other addition or subtraction problem. But the only thing different is to make sure that you line up the decimal. Here is an example for both addition and subtraction. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
