An MCCers experience in the "Mountain Kingdom"
September | 2009 | Simon Says
https://simonsayslesotho.wordpress.com/2009/09
An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. Archive for September, 2009. September 27, 2009. I awoke too early. A quick glance at the clock : 7:30; that’s sleeping in here. “Bang, Bang.” It’s my sister at my door. “Kamihelo, Kamihelo? But today I’m off to a funeral. So it would almost be a felony offense to go without polish at my household. I brush of my shoes, put on my nicest clothes and walk with my host mom down the dirt road to the taxis. Saturday funerals are a way of life in Lesotho. This o...
An Ode to Olive Oil | Simon Says
https://simonsayslesotho.wordpress.com/2010/04/01/an-ode-to-olive-oil
An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. An Ode to Olive Oil. Oh olive oil I long for thee. My lips day-dream of Sicily. I need to taste your fine green essence. Before the horrors of evanescence. Oh olive oil I miss you more than my dad. When I get home I need you scantily clad. Candles at the table, just me and you. No better reintroduction than dinner for two. Oh olive oil you are driving me insane. How can anybody expect me to abstain. Your extra-virgin body just asking for a glug. You are comme...

Gameday Spectacle | Simon Says

An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. It’s Sunday and it’s cold, wet and rainy. You can see the mist mingling at the tops of the minature mountains that hover behind the village of Morija. The drizzle clatters against the tin roofs held down by a mish-mash of rocks and nails announcing to residents: stay inside. Lijabatou promptly scores. The opposing goalie lies face down in the mud. He should have had it. The entourage exalt in joy. The driver of the white truck is singing with ...The Morija bo...

An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. My fiance and I? The point is I’m not going to masquerade in those 19th century Russian drawing rooms using a word that feels empty. Kendra's African Adventures: April 2010
http://southafricanzuluadventures.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
This blog page is all about my MCC SALT placement in South Africa. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Ode to my uGogo. This past week my family and I have been saying sad goodbyes to a very wonderful lady, my uGogo. My uGogo as I will refer to her now while I’m still living in South Africa was probably one of the most influential persons in my life. She was loving, caring, supportive, creative, and most importantly a woman of faith who loved God. Last month one of my fellow SwaLeSa SALTers, Simon in Lesotho.

Thursday, November 26, 2009. Ben's Excellent Adventure or Thanksgiving and Eid part 2. Well, yesterday was American Thanksgiving. Because the rest of the MCC team here are Americans, we had a little get together in Dhaka including real turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes etc. It really hit the spot, especially after my Excellent Adventure. There you have it. My Thanksgiving story. I made a friend and had a good meal. Overall, I think it was a good day. Saturday, November 21, 2009. Oh yeah, nothing. Base Th...
In My Life: Bishoi Kap
http://benreesor.blogspot.com/2010/06/bishoi-kap.html
Sunday, June 20, 2010. When I last posted the games hadn't begun. I could only speculate on what a World Cup in Bangladesh is like. I had questions like "Why does everyone like Brazil and Argentina? My own hypothesis was proven wrong when I asked Mokhles. He told me that Bangladeshis love watching flashy, big name players and Brazil and Argentina have had their fair share. Players like Pele, Ronaldo, Kaka, Maradona and Messi are household names. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Sunday, January 31, 2010. There's a song by Joni Mitchell called "Big Yellow Taxi". One of the lines goes:. Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone? So now I need to get my head thinking about the meaning of those words for when I do come home. I know by this time next year I'll be in the thick of midterms and I'll be wishing I never left Bangladesh. I guess it's just the way these things work. Piyash getting help from his Grandpas. In My Life: December 2009
http://benreesor.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 20, 2009. A big fat Hindu Wedding. Did I mention he was wearing a huge hat? The bride, if you didn't guess already. I ended up leaving around 2 am. I didn't see the couple when they were actually married, but I was tired. Apparently the celebrations continued the next day. I'll try to upload a video I took. Pictures may say a thousand words, but words only tell half the story. Thursday, December 10, 2009. I admit I used to feel that way. But where will it go? Friday, December 4, 2009.
In My Life: Monsoon's a-comin'
http://benreesor.blogspot.com/2010/06/monsoons-comin.html
Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The sun peaked through the clouds today. It's the first time he's shown his face in four days. It's been raining off and on most of the time. I don't really mind though, because the temperatures have been comfortable. I slept with a sheet covering me last night. The monsoon season is important for Bangladesh. Around 80% of the yearly rainfall comes in these 3 months. However, the monsoon can also bring devastating cyclones and massive floods. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Sunday, March 14, 2010. A dead bird and elephant soccer. Well I guess I found something interesting to write about. The circus has come to town! For the past few months, there have been some birds living in the office. They often fly by my desk on their way to their nest above a doorway. An MCCers experience in the Mountain Kingdom. The “Foreign” media and the World Cup. May 31, 2010 - 4 Responses. It’s thoroughly entertaining to observe the African media wage the airwaves war against the big bad conglomerates of North America and Europe. But undoubetedly there will be all those pictures of shacks and what not with the lavish world cup stadium in the background. You know what: that is not the point. We know Africa is very poor in comparison to the rest of the world. These pho...No better...
