Jag beslutade att hålla fast vid Clapotis konceptet eftersom jag är mycket nöjd med kajakens egenskaper. Några små justeringar ville jag ändå göra, och även minska vikten en bit. Men i tunna laminat fick jag en del problem med gelcoatvidhöftning och läckage, bland annat just i sitsarna. Luckor och skott laminerade i kolfiber. Här användes transparent gelcoat för att få kolfiberfinish där man ser vävstrukturen på ytorna. Kolfiber är dyrt, över 1000kr/kg, så man pusslar in bitarna noga!

De frästa frigolitkropparna har tyvärr en alltför mjuk och porös yta för att direkt kunna göra formar på. För att kunna skapa en perfekt hård och blank yta har jag därför först lagt på ett epoxy/glasfiberlaminat på frigolitytan, följt av ett tjockt lager gelcoat. I denna gelcoatyta har sedan en perfekt yta slipats och polerats fram. Mycket jobb…. Den första slipningen görs för hand med långbräde.

Är det äntligen klart att bygga den första kajaken! Men det är klart att den första blir väl inte perfekt, det tar ett litet tag innan man hittar rätt materialtjocklek för optimal vikt/styrke förhållande.
