Simply Cooking Simply

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Thursday, August 29, 2013. Cole slaw is one of those things for which every family has its own favorite recipe. Some like it sweet. Some like it vinegary. Some like it creamy. I have personally never been a big fan of a really mayonnaisy cole slaw. Perhaps that’s because I don’t need to eat a lot of mayo. My one exception is KFC’s cole slaw. Love that stuff. Maybe it’s sweet enough to offset the mayo. 189; c. vinegar. 1-1/2 t. yellow mustard.

Simply Cooking Simply: Sloppin' it up

http://simplycookingsimply.blogspot.com/2011/09/sloppin-it-up.html

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Tuesday, September 6, 2011. I’m a summer person. I love the long days and watching the flowers and trees bloom. I love watching my grandkids swim. I love grilling dinner. I love hot dogs and hamburgers drenched in ketchup and mustard and sticky barbecued ribs. But today I wasn’t in the mood to braise a meal. Instead, I wanted something simple. Sloppy Joes came to mind. So true, so this evening I gave it a whirl, and it was a success. 1 tsp Worc...

Simply Cooking Simply: August 2010

http://simplycookingsimply.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Monday, August 30, 2010. Well, you get part of the point anyway. For me, cooking and eating are partly about putting food in tummies - providing nourishment and primal satisfaction. But even more important, at least to me, is the connection that can be made around a dinner table or a picnic table or a card table. Oh, and have cinnamon crumb cake as often as possible. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Was it to snorkel in the continental United States&...

Simply Cooking Simply: Peachy Keen

http://simplycookingsimply.blogspot.com/2013/08/peachy-keen.html

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Tuesday, August 27, 2013. I grew up in east central Nebraska, in an area not known for its peaches. Corn, yes; peaches, not so much. Nevertheless, every summer my mom would make peach pie out of fresh summertime peaches, and it was oh so good. Now I live in Colorado, where our Western Slope peaches are arguably some of the best in the country. Take that Georgia. You have better football teams. 5 c sliced, peeled peaches (about 7 medium peaches)*.

Simply Cooking Simply: The Roast is Clear

http://simplycookingsimply.blogspot.com/2011/09/roast-is-clear.html

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Thursday, September 15, 2011. The Roast is Clear. I’ve said it before and I will undoubtedly say it again. I love food. I love to cook it. I love to eat it. I love to smell it. And, what’s more, I love to look at it. But what I can get excited about are roasted vegetables. Don’t hate me because I’m a geek. I just like the sweet taste that roasting gives veggies, especially any kind of root vegetable. I found a recipe for roasted pork tenderloin...

Simply Cooking Simply: November 2010

http://simplycookingsimply.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

What should I make for dinner, and how can I make it simple? Tuesday, November 9, 2010. So, last night my husband, our son, and I were out for dinner at a chain restaurant. We all ordered rib-eye steaks, and they were quite good. About mid-meal, our waiter, who seemed to have a bit of an odd personality, asked us, “Are your meals exceptional? I’m used to a waiter asking if everything is okay or if there’s anything we need during a meal. But exceptional? But if you held my feet to the fire and asked me to...

Nana's Whimsies: August 2013

http://nanaswhimsies.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Musings of a Baby Boomer. Saturday, August 31, 2013. Last night Bill and I went out to dinner with our son, his wife, and their two daughters, ages 5 and 3. Both of them are dealing with colds, so their appetites weren't necessarily up to par. Nevertheless, here is what they ate for dinner:. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, their dinner consisted of eight or nine packages of butter. They started out with bread-and-butter, and then I guess they just figured the bread slowed them down. 1 t baking powder. As with...

Home Cooking Meets FoodTV. Annual Caramel Apples for Halloween. Asymp; 1 Comment. Here is my annual Halloween Honey Caramel Apple post, this year with some new pictures. When making caramel, the temperature you cook it to determines whether it is a thin (220) or thick sauce (240) or a soft (260)or hard (300) candy. A candy thermometer is a must, but you can get one pretty much anywhere that has kitchen equipment, including most grocery stores for just a few dollars. The Ingredients are very simple:.

Menu Plan Monday April 30, 2012. Posted by simplykerri in Menu Plan Monday. I didn’t get a chance to make my pesto last week because the basil went bad and I didn’t have time to go to the grocery store and get more, so it’s on the menu again this week. I am determined to make my own pesto :) The Chili Rellanos turned out great. They will definitely be on the menu in the near future. My menu is only 1/2 planned right now because homework has taken over. Supper: YOYO – Plenty of leftovers. Supper: Pesto pa...
