Simply Sublime Stupidity

Tuesday, September 1, 2009. The honeymoon is OVER! Ahhhhh, I feel better. It's nice to vent. On a more humorous note. I was working with a small group of students today during journal writing. I had them write about a favorite birthday moment. I made sure to tell them I wanted to see lots of details. Where they were, what they ate, what they got, who was there, etc. One of my students asked me if I could help him spell peanut butter pizza. I, of course, said sure! He said, yes. I said, really? Today was ...

Simply Sublime Stupidity: Kids Say the Darnedest Things

http://simplysublimestupidity.blogspot.com/2009/02/kids-say-darnedest-things.html

Thursday, February 26, 2009. Kids Say the Darnedest Things. They all raise their hands eager to share some of their crazy hair ideas. The first student I call on says, "I would put poop on my head." I laugh and say that we would all have to hold our noses. I'm hoping not to draw attention to the fact that he just said he would put poop on his head during my observation! So, moving on, I call on another student for her brilliant idea. Her response is, "I would put pee on my head." OMG! Head of the Class.

Simply Sublime Stupidity: April 2008

http://simplysublimestupidity.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Today was a TAKS testing day, as it was in all other Texas schools as well. Because I teach in a grade that does not take the test, we were not allowed in the building other than to move in and out for specials and getting lunch (to go back to class and eat). A teacher that can actually teach, not just maintain order and control all day long. Well today I had ALL of my students ALL day long and it was exhausting! More of the same tomorrow! On a more positive note. Mr Teacher tagg...

Simply Sublime Stupidity: October 2008

http://simplysublimestupidity.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 16, 2008. That's about all I can say. I feel fortunate that I still have my same job, in my same school, in my same room, with my same kids. I feel a bit sad that I feel fortunate about that. Many of my colleagues can not say the same thing. Why should we be tousled about this way? I'm bracing myself for a strange and difficult next few weeks. Saturday, October 11, 2008. 1 down. 18 to go. :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a teacher and love it. mostly! Simply Sublime Stupidity: February 2008

http://simplysublimestupidity.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 21, 2008. Another teacher on my grade level always says, "the nerve" when a student does something they shouldn't. I think it's an appropriate title for my wonderings today. She is just a visitor in our room, not the teacher. Ugh! Shouldn't she have her own "system" for getting them to participate. Maybe by not scaring the crap out of them and yelling at them. Just a thought! Monday, February 18, 2008. Have a good one! Sunday, February 17, 2008. This coming week should be an interestin...

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Happy Summer, Happy Professional Development! The Head Of The Class: Stop! It's Lotto Time!

http://theheadoftheclass.blogspot.com/2012/11/stop-its-lotto-time.html

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Saturday, November 17, 2012. We are in week 12 of the most dismal year ever. Every day I am looking over my shoulder. Just tape a big red and white target on my back. I think we have all had it. I’m looking for a way out, and being that my degree is not exactly conducive to going into another field, I’m going to start playing some numbers. After all, you can’t win if you don’t play. 8221; they’ll say. Zaciekawiłeś mnie...

The Head Of The Class: September 2009

http://theheadoftheclass.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Friday, September 25, 2009. Compliments Can Go A Long Way. We had an assembly today for 4 th. Graders. A speaker from one of the local community colleges came and spoke to the kids about the importance of college and about the many opportunities college provided. I make it a point, before any assembly, to have a "class discussion" over etiquette. If that's a word). The speaker then passed out a flyer. With bullet point...

The Head Of The Class: Super Waste

http://theheadoftheclass.blogspot.com/2011/02/super-waste.html

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Thursday, February 3, 2011. Over 100,000 people will attend, paying upwards of $600 a ticket for upper bowl to $900 for lower bowl (face value of course). More than likely, they will pay even more than face value for those tickets. And how much are luxury suites? Upwards of $250,000, maybe? And, it will be a great halftime show, I’m sure. The Head Of The Class: This month's TAKS testing is the first step to unfairly judging teachers

http://theheadoftheclass.blogspot.com/2011/04/this-months-taks-testing-is-first-step.html

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Sunday, April 10, 2011. This month's TAKS testing is the first step to unfairly judging teachers. The TAKS test has arrived. In upcoming weeks, teachers will be trying hard to review concepts and clear up misconceptions. Some teachers have tutoring sessions before school or during lunch. Some continue tutoring during their planning periods or after school. Some may do all of these things. That I am substandard? The pub...

The Head Of The Class: March 2009

http://theheadoftheclass.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

The Head Of The Class. General observations on public school teaching and other stuff. Friday, March 13, 2009. A week ago during the long bout that is parent conferences, my team and I had a conversation with a parent of a child with “behavioral issues.” Mainly, he doesn’t behave. The day after, the kid comes into my class with a new outlook on life, a fresh perspective, a new desire to make a difference, a burp-machine. Sit on it, please. Posted by Ed U. Cater. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Bob bowen 4 parkinson's ]. I had a great opportunity a couple weeks ago to document a fundraiser. A 14 year old boy decided to put this fundraiser together for his eagle project and to honor his late grandfather who had passed from Parkinson's. He put together a golf tournament, which had an amazing turnout! He even had a couple people who have Parkinson's to come and speak. One was Brett Peterson from the Sabers Hockey team. It was such an amazing experience! Hi, i'm jen!
