Turning over a new leaf. Saturday, 6 June 2015. The hills are alive with the smell of Ceylon! A fortnight in Sri Lanka. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to visit Sri Lanka, I have no idea why, just one of those gut feelings. It was even one of my choices when applying for teaching work in Asia, however Thailand won out and I enjoyed eighteen months of thrilling adventure and hilarious confusion while Sri Lanka simmered away on the back burner. I had a mission to complete, to get a tan. So, beg...

Sinéad Nua: January 2014

http://www.sineadnua.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Turning over a new leaf. Wednesday, 15 January 2014. Rollin' In The Deep. I forgot to tell ye about Loi Krathong! Get comfy and I’ll fill ya in. Loi Krathong is an annual Thai holiday whereby people make buoyant floral decorations, called Lois (loys) which they float on the water. The purpose being to pay gratitude to the river for the rainy season. It takes place in November during the full moon. In NS it took place on November 17th both at the lake within the park and at the edge of the Chao Praya river.

Turning over a new leaf. Thursday, 17 April 2014. Sawat Dee Pi Mai Ka….erm, again. Songkran in Chiang Mai. It seems the phrase of the moment is ‘Happy New Year’, for I have celebrated it three different times so far this year. The most recent being the Thai New Year celebration, called Songkran. It is a three day festival when traditionally elders and monks are paid respect by dousing them with fragrant water originally used to cleanse the Buddha. As Songkran is a Buddhist festival it was nice to see the...

Sinéad Nua: June 2013

Turning over a new leaf. Friday, 14 June 2013. Teach Me Sugarcraft Cupcake Course. Cake, isn't it a wonderful word? Just the mention of it sparks excitement and, for a moment, I shelve the notion of abstaining - "Ooh, well if you went to the trouble of baking.". There's a thin girl crying inside me but she's usually silenced with a cupcake or two. Anyway, I attended a cupcake decorating class in an effort to become a little more adept at the old. Sinéad Nua: October 2013

http://www.sineadnua.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Turning over a new leaf. Wednesday, 23 October 2013. With two weeks of holiday ahead of me and an insatiable desire to relax I decided to venture south to Kho Tao, a little island near the cluster of party islands nestled in the Gulf of Thailand. Neighboured by Kho Pangnan and Kho Samui this little sister is a quieter spot frequented by divers and snorkellers for it’s amazing array of fish and coral. I set myself two tasks, get a tan and read a book. I scurried past the army of taxi touts shouting &#8220...

Sinéad Nua: November 2011

http://www.sineadnua.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Turning over a new leaf. Tuesday, 29 November 2011. Learn French In The Kitchen. The concise response of. Shall remain in my memory bank as will the titters of laughter that circulated the coffee shop. So I decided that my diligent teenage eagerness to study French should not go to any further waste. I found a short course, run by Alliance Française. I had an informal assessment prior to the course to ascertain my level of French. Despite my horrendous grasp of verbs. For 330 to creep along. View my comp...

Squires Fish and Chip Restaurant | A Foodie’s Guide: Brizzle & Beyond

https://loobylou28.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/squires-fish-and-chip-restaurant

A Foodie’s Guide: Brizzle and Beyond. Squires Fish and Chip Restaurant. Now, where to take the folks for a casual bite to eat on their first visit to Braunton? Well, when at the seaside, it’s got to be fish and chips of course. So, all in all the food gets the thumbs up. My only slight criticism of Squire’s in general would be that they’re currently not doing their bit for the world’s fish stocks. Have they not been watching Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall like the rest of us? At a touch over 40 for 4 meals an...

A Foodie’s Guide: Brizzle and Beyond. Style but no substance The Gastro Bar & Grill. I wasn’t blown away by my starter of prawns pil pil, it was okay but certainly nothing to write home about and at 7.95 I’d expected it to be spot on. Sis, however, raved about her starter, a soft shell crab salad with a wasabi dressing. The subtle balance of flavours was just right and the wasabi didn’t overpower the dish which it could so easily have done. Would pud save the day? May 20, 2011 at 4:30 pm. Your comments h...

A Foodie’s Guide: Brizzle and Beyond. Archive January, 2011. New Year, New Review: The Pumphouse, Bristol. Chef Toby Gritten, of gastropub The Pumphouse in Hotwells, likes to experiment with food combinations. Clearly inspired by the masterful, Mr Blumenthal and having already picked up Gold at the Taste of the West Awards 2009 his talents clearly haven’t gone unnoticed. As we sat gazing at the menu, the man asked me the question i’d be longing to hear since we met… Shall we try the tasting menu? If you ...

Ok, so it was located in Croyde which to be fair is sometimes accused of being more London than North devon but I was still highly impressed . I could have happily wolfed them on their own but they were accompanied by cocoa nib ice cream, vanilla ice cream flecked with intense bits of cocoa bean a rather ingenious idea and very tasty indeed. Http:/ www.saltyard.co.uk. A weekend of gluttony. I reckon I could get used to the lifestyle of being a lady that lunches, especially at these prices. Sinéad N's P.E. Blog. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Competition is a contest between individuals or groups of people. In a competition there is a prize for the winner and the whole idea of a competition is to achieve this prize or award. Every sport doesn’t have to be a competition and I think that it makes playing the game more fun when there isn’t that pressure on you to win. A lot of people, however, like to play sport competitively and I think everyone loves the feeling of winning. At the start I wasn&#...
