A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Tip of My Tongue. If you live alone, culinary confessions. Sunday, March 21, 2010. Just caught myself realizing…. If I lived alone:. I would have re-used those coffee grounds. Posted March 21st, 2010 at 4:31 pm. Interesting. My reaction was, “If I didn’t live alone, I’d probably have to compromise on the quality of my coffee.” (as in, I couldn’t be such a coffee snob). Posted March 21st, 2010 at 7:11 pm. Can you re-use coffee grounds? If so, how many times?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010. I’ve admitted to not being much of a jam eater. This can make the process of putting up jars and jars of jam in the summer a bit silly feeling. That is until these cold crisp sunny wintry mornings when one of those jars gets snapped open. Or until they are handed out as Christmas [.]. Sunday, June 21st, 2009.

A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Spoils of summer: fruit popsicles. Sunday, August 2, 2009. With the height of summer’s ripe-wave, I find myself often failing to keep up with the super juicy berries in my kitchen. When its too darn hot outside, do I want to fire up the stove top to turn these fruity gems into jam? And when made with a judicious hand, these treats are perfectly allowable as guilt-free breakfast treats, (. I say typing one handed with a cantaloupe black pepper pop. Consider y...

A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Tip of My Tongue. Maturity and Changing Taste Buds. Monday, October 16, 2006. Nothing like a birthday to realize something you’ve been wrong about all these years. For 32 years I’ve been a proud and outloud tomato hater. Oooo, especially raw ones- my goodness! So, what’s happening here? As Sweets and I were traveling in Japan, we were also taking in Anthony Bourdain’s essays on eating in, the Nasty Bits. Sweets doesn’t do pickle- no way Jose. A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Strawberry on strawberry action. Sunday, June 21, 2009. I’ve only recently come to love strawberries. Yeah- I know how odd that is… I had some silly convictions I carried with me through childhood as a picky eater. Strawberries use to be in that category of untouchable foods -like tomatoes. But now that I’m enjoying foods in season, strawberries have revealed themselves to be the nirvana that I had always heard about. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt. I mean, t...

A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Cream of Jalapeño Soup. Tuesday, December 21, 2004. This is a nice indulgent soup, perfect for my cold Monday night. Based on a recipe found in The Best American Recipes 1999. It strikes me as a kicked up tortilla soup. It has spice, but isn’t hot. If you feel like you really deserve it, serve this in a toasted bread bowl. Cream of Jalapeño Soup. Saute over medium low heat:. Seeded, and minced. Two cloves of garlic. Add to the saute:. 2 cups of stock*. I wan...

A good girl's notebook. Of her culinary world. Tip of My Tongue. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. These jalapeños have been sitting in my refrigerator a week now. It’s a shame to ignore them as I have- so I threw in the towel today. Well sort of. My current storage experiment: submerging them in rice and tucking them into the freezer, with the future plan to cook up the scented rice. I’m excited to see how long it takes the rice to suck up some of that pepper power. More ideas for making use of jalapeños. I hav...
