神岡鄉早期為粵籍人士開發時稱「新廣莊」，而「神岡」與「新廣」的粵語發音頗為相似，可能後來由於閩人入墾，加上日久口誤，而沿用「神岡」之名。 明鄭之季，本鄉隸屬天興州，1684年，施琅入台後，設一府三縣，本鄉改隸諸羅縣。1723年設彰化縣治，本鄉歸彰化管轄，為貓霧東梀東堡岸裡社，土名「阿河巴莊」荒地。 雍正末年，有粵籍人士張達京、張承祖等入台，至此招佃墾荒，始為大力開墾，當時形成的村落有望樓(寮)、社口(萬興莊)、北庄、浮圳(紅圳頭)諸庄。 神岡鄉有「早期中部開發中心」之稱，先人入豐原、東勢、后里等地開墾，都需經由本地；因此古蹟很多，這 些文化資產已成為本鄉擁有發展觀光事業潛力。自1978年中山高速公路通車以來，在本鄉岸裡村設置豐原交流，使得本鄉成為台中縣交通樞紐，而高速公路豐原交流道自然成為本鄉重要地標。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
