Welcome to Africa: April 2015
http://amanda-uganda.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 16, 2015. Every day we make tons of choices. Sometimes they are really important, big decisions, that could alter the course of our futures. Like what school to go to, or who to marry, or what job to accept. But most of our decisions are not life altering. They are just normal, every day stuff. For example, this morning choosing what to wear. Frustrating for this unpredictable weather, but in the grand scheme of things, a pretty insignificant choice. But they are just kids. He has agreed ...

Welcome to Africa: Willy
http://amanda-uganda.blogspot.com/2012/08/willy.html
Monday, August 27, 2012. Where to start with Willy? Even though he has been with us for a long time now, I have never actually lived in the house at the same time as him. How does that happen? Well, I adored him when he was on the street. He is so sweet and quiet. You will never find him fighting or arguing. He makes good choices. A fairly easy kid. He finally returned after I left. Please be praying for Willy and his father. I know he wants to be in the village and I would love if he could be.

Welcome to Africa: Difficult lessons
http://amanda-uganda.blogspot.com/2014/03/difficult-lessons.html
Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Tom and Moses after church. This is a continuation of my post yesterday, if you didn’t read it go back here. And take a second to read it. I gave a lot of background info about Uganda that will help you to understand everything that is happening. Sunday started off like every other Sunday and everything was fine until I was waiting to get my coffee. To say that I lost it would be the understatement of the century. A fire and rage came over me like I have never experienced. Everyo...

Welcome to Africa: December 2014
http://amanda-uganda.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. What I heard this week. Here is your weekly dose of the crazy things these kids say! I have been keeping a garden, and it has tons of greens in it. I picked some on Sunday for lunch and Kansiime cooked them for us. Me: The greens were really good today. Thanks for cooking them. Me: Were they good because I dug them well or because you cooked them well? Kansiime: All of it. Clearly, he loved the greens too. Me: You see that thing? David: Yeah, it is Father Christmas. There is...

Welcome to Africa: January 2015
http://amanda-uganda.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 30, 2015. As I stood there listening to an uncle explain to a boy why learning how to make dreads and other styles would benefit his family more than selling shoes, my mind drifted to another boy sitting nearby. I have seen him off and on over the last few years, but he never used to come to the programs or leave the slum he stayed in until recently. As I watched his stiff body struggle to walk, to stand, to sit, pretty much to do anything, I wondered about how many untreated injuries he ...
