Why am I Serving? Life Before the Mission. Why am I Serving? When President Thomas S Monson announced that the new age for missionaries was 18 for elders and 19 for sisters I was very excited. Not for myself,. But for friends I knew would be ecstatic! I didn't think it was something I would do though. I prayed and pondered the idea a lot and surprisingly to me, the answer was yes. I needed to serve a mission. There was no worry, confusion, anxiety, nothing like that. 100% peace and confidence.
