Adalah bayi mulai menyusu sendiri segera setelah lahir. Sebenarnya bayi manusia juga seperti bayi mamalia lain yang menyusu sendiri,. Asalkan dibiarkan kontak kulit bayi dengan kulit ibunya, setidaknya selama satu. Jam segera setelah lahir (Roesli, 2008). Inisiasi menyusu dini adalah pemberian air susu ibu dimulai sedini mungkin.
