Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Being Happy with What You've Got. About six months ago a friend told me about a disappointment: he had been expecting his yearly raise to be of a certain amount, and, based on that expectation he'd made reservations for a big beautiful trip to the Carribean. But the raise wasn't as much as he'd expected. And he had to cancel the trip. Posted by Amy Sens. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hamlet, 1.5.

Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Wednesday, September 08, 2004. I have been considering again lately that little cliche about how some people live to work, and some people work to live. I very much like the idea of a Sabbath. Oh well. Back to work. Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Tuesday, December 14, 2004. 1 Find a good time and place. It should be somewhere quiet where you don't have to worry about interruptions. Heather has been very patient with me lo these many years, and lets me be alone when I'm meditating, for which I am thankful. 2 Have some kind of a ritual for getting started. This might be lighting a candle, chiming a bell, or putting on soft music. 3 Begin by paying attention to your breathing. Than are d...

Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Tuesday, August 09, 2005. Getting Ready to Die. A good, but difficult article. In the New York Times about hospice care, palliative care and how people approach their deaths. How do we let go of a life? How much intervention is too much? When do all the small fixes stop making sense? How does a person know when to say, ' O.K., so this is what I'll finally die of'? But since the diseases are ' predictably fatal,' why do we so often feel blinds...

http://innernerd.blogspot.com/2004/12/prayer-101-prayer-is-different-from.html
Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Thursday, December 16, 2004. Prayer is different from meditation because your goal is not to quiet the mind, but to communicate with God. A traditional way of praying that many of us are familiar with is to sit quietly, fold our hands, and bow our heads while either speaking out loud to God, or focusing the thoughts in our minds. What should you say? Jesus taught his disciples a simple prayer. Doration (praising God for being so wonderful).

Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Friday, June 12, 2015. Just Finished Reading: Some of My Best Friends are Black by Tanner Colby. These days, with a principal who is very open to talking about race and has a strong historical understanding of it, plus the arrival of a large crop of middle-class black kids, Colby's alma mater is integrated. As in, about half the white kids report being genuinely good friends with at least one black kid. Unlike the rest of White Americ...There...

Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Friday, April 01, 2005. Friends, I am grateful to all of you for the time you've spent reading my blog. I've enjoyed our conversations, comments, discussions, and deep thoughts. Which is what makes what I'm about to say so difficult: This Sunday I am going to be baptized into the Old Order Amish Mennonite Church. At services in Lancaster, PA. After that, I will no longer be able to write to you on this blog. Posted by Amy Sens. Hamlet, 1.5.

Spirituality, Religion, Politics and Other Topics of Interest. Tuesday, December 28, 2004. So I was reading an article about "intelligent design" which is a sort of argument or theory intended to counteract Darwinism- a kind of new creationism. I have to say that evolution always made a lot of sense to me. But I was the kid who would fall asleep reading copies of Nature magazine, after all. Here's what I think: Science has mostly got it right, as far as how the world has come together. 1 The Big Bang.

Just Finished Reading: American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America by Colin Woodard. This was a fascinating read, and perfect for the weeks leading up to the 4. He gets into Canada and Mexico a little bit, too, since these nations, marked by ethnic, language and cultural differences, don’t follow state or national lines. 8220;The goal of the Deep Southern oligarchy has been consist...
