Yes, now I remember what a big city smells like: Whispers of yesterday

http://sixmonthssanpaulo.blogspot.com/2009/06/whispers-of-yesterday.html

Photos from: http:/ www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/educacao/ult305u578870.shtml. During the dictatorship in Brazil, the university was moved from the centre of town to a new campus enclosing all the faculties. The objective was to isolate the students and the "problems" they bring, such as manifestations. Photos from: http:/ veja.abril.com.br/noticia/brasil/policiais-militares-entram-confronto-estudantes-usp-476304.shtml. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Life on the bus.

Yes, now I remember what a big city smells like: Confrontation and paralysis

http://sixmonthssanpaulo.blogspot.com/2009/06/confrontation-and-paralysis.html

The strike immobilizes the faculty, there might not be final presentations of students projects, as planned for next week. This means that notes will be given only in August. The photo below is from the central plaza at campus where students have hung a "Get out MPs! Flag on the clock. A video filmed by one of the students under the confrontation with the MPs. From. Http:/ dceocupado.blogspot.com/, a student blog that follows this process. Interesting to check out for more photos and videos.

Yes, now I remember what a big city smells like: The public space is a private space

http://sixmonthssanpaulo.blogspot.com/2009/05/public-space-is-private-space.html

The public space is a private space. Sidewalk adapted for entering the garages. This part of the sidewalk needs reform. I like this little house on the photo above, also found in Rua A. Carlos. It is nearly invicible behind a small forest of palm trees. The fence of the house is low and shows age, different from most houses in the city which are protected by high iron fences or concrete walls. I like the old red car that is parked in the front patio. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Six Months of Summer

Six Months of Summer. Pictures and notes from trotting around Asia. Thursday, January 15, 2009. A morning in Suzhou. The most interesting thing we did in Suzhou was checking out the local stores. For instance, we found a TV store. A kitchen supplies store (check out those wok burners! And a bath supplies store, where you can get your own wooden bathtub. There were also plenty of local delicacies to try, like little birds (pigeons? And pigs' noses. We stuck with sweet sesame dumplings. Suzhou looked a lot...

Hokey Pokey (What this blog's all about). A writing challenge I've given myself to write every day for six months. After some posts, I'll put in a comment with a brief explanation of the inspiration for the piece. Some posts will be practice for bigger projects: character sketches or settings. I don't really know what all will happen which is why I'm doing it. Sunday, July 1, 2012. Six Months Salty. A shared story of living the dream | "Lifes journey is never ending"

Six Months Salty. A shared story of living the dream. August 14, 2014. We have already met some great people in our time here. On one sunset visit to Cable Beach we were walking back through the car park and noticed another Bay Window Kombi. We got talking to the young couple that owned the Van Anthony and Katie who told us they were already 2 years into their journey in the Van. And we thought we were on a big journey! Anthony and Katie bringing back the 60’s in style. We also manged several journeys to...
