Home Storage Skills: The Ultimate Way to Season Cast Iron
http://storageskills.blogspot.com/2011/02/ultimate-way-to-season-cast-iron.html
Wednesday, February 23, 2011. The Ultimate Way to Season Cast Iron. I found this in the January 2011 issue of Cooks Illustrated magazine and thought I'd pass it on. For years we've seasoned cast-iron in the test kitchen by placing it over medium heat and wiping out the pan with coats of vegetable oil until its surface turns dark and shiny. Why did the new treatment work so well? Although length, seasoning with flaxseed oil is a mainly hands-off undertaking. We highly recommend the treatment:. 2 Remove th...

Home Storage Skills: Facebook Posts
http://storageskills.blogspot.com/2011/08/facebook-posts.html
Sunday, August 28, 2011. While in the midst of preparing for Hurricane Irene, I would get these ideas about prepping and randomly post them to FaceBook. I had a number of people comment on how helpful the ideas were. I thought I'd combine a list of my posts to have in one handy place. I did "steal" a couple of ideas from other people who had been through this before. We took the enclosure off and flipped our trampoline over. Hope that works. If you have a pool, you can submerge your outdoor furniture in ...

Home Storage Skills: Using Gadgets to Can Tomatoes
http://storageskills.blogspot.com/2010/08/using-gadgets-to-can-tomatoes.html
Friday, August 27, 2010. Using Gadgets to Can Tomatoes. I did something different this year when canning tomato sauce. I used my steam juicer and food strainer. Let me tell ya, it was so much easier. My family uses tomatoes mostly in the form of sauce, specifically pasta sauce. So, I decided to can my tomatoes in sauce form this year. I was able to eliminate the need for a blanching bath for the tomatoes because I used my steam juicer. Below is the bottom piece and has water in it. I have let mine go...

Home Storage Skills: May 2012
http://storageskills.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 31, 2012. It happened to me. I had heard that it could but I thought I had raised my children better than that. What am I talking about? My six-year old daughter would NOT eat the ham/bean soup I made for dinner. Can you believe that? It was so good. After a long time and much cajoling, she ate three bites and then outright rejected them. That's the Reader's Digest version. There is definitely MUCH more to the story. Why do I tell you this story?
