Hoektronics.com - Automate Everything. Electric Scooter Battery Upgrade – Pt. 3 – Building the Pack. In the last post, I decided on the 15Ah LiFePo4 cylinders in the 40152 size. The first thing I did before assembly was to take some black electrical tape and use it to mark the negative terminals. You can tell the difference between negative and positive with a multimeter or by looking carefully, but I wanted to know which was with with a simple glance. This turned out to be a really good idea. The protec...

Both of our 3D scanning rigs are currently experimental. For small scale 3D scanning, we are working with a Makerbot Digitizer. We are also experimenting with large scale 3D scanning of people using an XBox Kinect and Skanect. Scanning software. This setup is capable of geometry only or texture-mapped colour scans. We hope to add a turntable to our setup in the near future. If you are interested in experimenting with us. And watch here for images of our test scans.

Hoektronics.com - Automate Everything. I’m in love with electric bikes. They’re cheap, quick, cost nothing to run, and get me everywhere I need to go in the city. In Shenzhen I can drive it year-round and an electric bike is truly king of the road here – I can drive literally anywhere I want: from sidewalks to highways. Lately a few things have conspired to take my passion to the next level. First, I got a 3D scanner and software combo that works really well. The Primesense Carmine 1.09. Once we get this...

BeKi – Benchmark Kinect. The development of a 3D object benchmark using a low cost depth sensing camera. November 10, 2012. Development on the last few weeks. I should take time to write here more often. I’ll present a summarized view that describes more or less what I’ve been doing lately on this project, and later go a bit into detail of a few problems I met along the way. I tried different approaches then. The first was using Skanect. I was directed to ReconstructMe. Which offers something of an inbet...

Thursday, 28th February 2013. Hacking the Kinect with Processing. I bought an Xbox Kinect late last month as I wanted to use it to scan in my daughter to get printed out at Shapeways. Or a similar service for a present for my Gran’s birthday. I had seen software like ReconstructMe. And others like Skanect. On YouTube which have the ability to scan using a Kinect. I then found myself wanting to experiment with the live data coming in from the Kinect. And I didn’t really know where to start. That Maker Sho...
