I wasn't expecting R. to be home for dinner last night, so I just planned on eating some of the leftovers that have been accumulating in the fridge. So imagine my surprise when R. walks through the door at 4:30 with a grocery bag. He says. Guess what? I'm making dinner tonight!

View my complete profile. Comfort Food in a Bowl. One of those days. Back in the Kitchen. Culinary in the Desert. Busy Nights Real Food. S'kat and the food. Sarah Discovers How to Eat. Friday, January 20, 2006. I received a nice little note from a fellow CLBBer wondering what my Thursday Night-Veggie Night dish would be this week (hi Mari! Crust) I wish I had a picture to show you, but our digital camera seems to have run out of batteries :(. I posted a plea for bean recipes on the Cooking Light. Seven T...

s'kat and the miscellania: Comforting comfort food... in Portsmouth!
http://skatandthemisc.blogspot.com/2007/12/comforting-comfort-food-in-portsmouth.html
S'kat and the miscellania. Wednesday, December 05, 2007. Comforting comfort food. in Portsmouth! Everyone needs it, and every culture has it: comfort food. Jason Alley and Chris Chandler paid homage to that basic necessity in Richmond at Comfort: traditional Southern cookery with a side of panache. Now Portsmouth is home to a second Comfort same name, same game. Our waiter tucked us into a booth, leaving us to look over one of the simplest menus I've seen in some time. Was a familiar wine to us, chosen f...

s'kat and the miscellania: January 2007
http://skatandthemisc.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
S'kat and the miscellania. Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Raspberry-Blueberry Pancakes with Cinnamon-Cream Syrup. My mind strayed back to the pancakes. Cute, fluffy and a tabula rosa, for sure! They were certain to be the perfect platform for a berry-tinged labor of love. Doing so results in uneven distribution, and irregular-shaped pancakes. Keep the bowl griddle-side, and plop them into the freshly poured batter rounds individually. Fiddly? A little. But isn't true love worth it? 1 teaspoon baking powder.

s'kat and the miscellania: Crannies Unite! It's time to relax, ya'all.

S'kat and the miscellania. Wednesday, December 12, 2007. It's time to relax, ya'all. I've made cinnamon rolls from scratch, and let me tell you: it is truly. An act of love. Dough is mixed, dough rises, dough is rolled just so, then coated with a buttery, sugary, cinnamon-heavy concoction that oozes when you try to (crookedly) roll it all up into a log. Then you slice, place in pan, coat with more sticky, sugary glaze, and finally FINALLY! In a word, no. In three words: Bridgford Parkerhouse Rolls. My si...

s'kat and the miscellania: Front 'n' Center
http://skatandthemisc.blogspot.com/2007/11/front-n-center.html
S'kat and the miscellania. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Williamsburg has New Town, and now it has the Center Street Grill. A name like that evokes a friendly, casual spot, enjoyed by locals and out-of-towners alike. Got it. Fusion food that's still familiar and appealing? Got that, too. Throw in a side of good service, and I'm wishing that Center Street was just a bit closer to home although the food is average. Dave's interest was instantly piqued by the Philly Roll ($7.25). Really, mine was to...A gir...
