An educator's attempt at both thoughtful reflection and writing…. Newer posts →. Lifeguard or a Swimmer? January 19, 2015. As I continue to make my way through. Teach Like a Pirate. I find myself reflecting on several aspects of the various chapters and connecting them to my life as an instructional leader. The chapter, “Immersion” especially resonated with me, as this is something I have recently been contemplating. In this chapter, Dave Burgess ( @burgessdave. If I attend an administrator meeting, and ...

An educator's attempt at both thoughtful reflection and writing…. Monthly Archives: November 2013. Read the CCSS Like an English Teacher. November 24, 2013. For the past several days I have been fortunate to attend the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) conference in Boston. An educator's attempt at both thoughtful reflection and writing…. The Amazing Potential of Play. One Great Shot: Edcamp Leadership →. April 6, 2016. I recently finished reading. There are many, many great lessons that I learned from my reading, and I have many ideas that I am beginning to (or have plans to) put into practice. One idea in particular immediately struck me and it has stuck with me, and it is based upon a game that I have never played (and do not ever have plans to play)…Golf:. Image Credit:...

For what it's worth…. Monthly Archives: August 2016. It’s All in My Head. August 6, 2016. I am a struggling runner. But I don’t think it has as much to do with my physical stamina as it does with my mental stamina. That little voice inside my head starts the whining even before I get out of bed:. It’s too early. I need more sleep. I don’t want to run on hills. Affton is entirely made of hills (or so it seems). If I swap days, I can take off today and run on my off day tomorrow. I curse the humidity….

For what it's worth…. The Insanity of Running. April 6, 2015. The insanity began to show itself when I continued to run in any weather conditions. And apparently I really mean. This past winter I ran in snow and ice. I did a sixteen mile run in a few inches of sleet and snow. Cold temperatures did not stop me. Many times my Propel turned into a slush mid run. Negative wind chills were no big deal. But my run last Friday completely convinced me that I have cracked up. Is It Over Yet? Is It Over Yet?

For what it's worth…. November 8, 2014. When my running increased, my writing decreased. I realized I have not posted anything since July 7th. Sure life is busy, but it’s not so busy that I can’t pause and reflect now and then. Since I last blogged, I participated in some pretty exciting events: the KT82 relay, the Indianapolis Marathon, and the St. Louis Track Club Half Marathon. I have learned a little bit more about myself through all of this. I am going to call that a success! Here I Go Again →.

For what it's worth…. Monthly Archives: April 2016. April 3, 2016. Last April, I ran my second marathon. I trained hard and ran hard through a constant storm. They actually cancelled the marathon mid-race, but I was blessed by volunteers who stayed at the finish to cheer stubborn runners with medals and recovery food (I have to have my banana). This marathon was only the beginning of a marathon year with many life-changing events. Another marathon in November, and this one under perfect weather condition...
Should I Run a Marathon? | strueblog

For what it's worth…. Should I Run a Marathon? February 18, 2014. Is running a full marathon a requirement for real runnership? In my mind, it must be as I can’t seem to let it go. One year ago I said a half marathon was enough for me. I said I would never run 26.2 miles. When would I have time to train? How would I keep myself interested in training runs long enough to prepare me for this? It’s inevitable. So when will I sign up? Fun, Flirty & Fabulous. One thought on “ Should I Run a Marathon? For what it's worth…. Is It Over Yet? January 28, 2015. The school year is like my Sunday run. I was anxious for that final 14th mile, just like you are anxious to get to the final test, the last project, the moment when the teachers wave goodbye to the buses as the students pull away and summer is here. But I decided to enjoy the sights, sounds, and even smells along the way. At Lindenwood Park I noticed the Sunshine Garden spot just waiting for spring to get here, and I felt the hills on two sides of t...

For what it's worth…. March 29, 2014. I registered for my first marathon, the 19th Annual Indianapolis Marathon. It’s too far away to start training, but I want to be ready! Maybe I need to slow down and take it one race at a time. Next week I have the Go! St Louis Half Marathon. In August I signed on for a crazy relay that involves running three different times during the day (and on August 30 – it will be hot). Training for these races will only help me prepare for the 26.2 miles! Is It Over Yet? Here ...

An educator's attempt at both thoughtful reflection and writing…. One Great Shot: Edcamp Leadership. July 11, 2016. It’s been a while, but I’m trying again.
