Sketchy Impressions

What is also lost these days is the sense of ‘the journey’ that encapsulates experiences that are often missed when traveling ‘over’ rather than ‘through’ the landscape. Sketchy Impressions: February 2014

http://sketchyimpressions.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, 16 February 2014. A Night in a Capsule Hotel. So after a warm and comfortable night, I eventually rolled up my blind and emerged from my upper level capsule. Stepping tentatively backwards down the steps, I must have looked like some sort of middle aged Neil Armstrong about to step foot on the moon. It was certainly difficult not to make space-age comparisons here! Location: Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs to Checkout . View my complete profile. Sketchy Impressions: October 2013

http://sketchyimpressions.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 14 October 2013. The Power of a Big Rubber Duck. One of the elements that allow this piece to work so successfully is its scale. While it is nowhere near as large as a building, it somehow manages to rival a city skyline in a way that we humans are unable to do. Maybe because it’s a small object enlarged, that it somehow appears even bigger than it actually is? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs to Checkout . View my complete profile. Mr.Meadows Art Class: The Big Bottle Project

http://mrmeadowsartclass.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-big-bottle-project.html

Saturday, March 2, 2013. The Big Bottle Project. After much bottle painting in our four Grade 8 classes, the final mounting of the piece would finally be the culmination of many hours of work. With approximately 100 students involved, this collaborative effort was always going to provide an impressive large-scale piece, but even we were surprised by the impact it would eventually have on the space. Mr.Meadows Art Class: Positive, Negative and Neutral Spaces

http://mrmeadowsartclass.blogspot.com/2013/06/positive-negative-and-neutral-spaces.html

Friday, June 7, 2013. Positive, Negative and Neutral Spaces. So here were the guidelines…. Each student would use 10cm square panels. Solid squares (made of coreflute card) would represent the positive areas. The empty spaces in and around the sculpture would be the negative spaces and perforated squares (plastic weed matting from the hardware store) would be the neutral spaces. For visual interest, three coloured panels of primary colours were also to be added somewhere in the sculpture.

Mr.Meadows Art Class: A Cubist Approach to Watercolour Painting

http://mrmeadowsartclass.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-cubist-approach-to-watercolour.html

Saturday, December 7, 2013. A Cubist Approach to Watercolour Painting. The end results were both bold and vibrant. By adopting this approach, many reflected that their final piece was in most cases completely different than what they had imagined and allowed them to see their subject matter through fresh eyes.
