Panormos has a good selection of tavernas cooking up some excellent Greek and Cretan food. All in all the food was superb and very reasonable. Depending on how piggy we were feeling, prices ranged from €15 to the most expensive meal we had of €32. This would usually include two courses and vino or beer and a side dish or two. I'm not going to recommend any one place in particular as all were good and I haven't got the foggiest what they were called anyway. Just wander around and take your pick! 2004 - 20...

Beaches, swimming and sunbathing. Panormos has two main sandy beaches and a few smaller places you can swim from. The main village beach is sheltered by the jettys of the small harbour so is ideal when its windy - and Crete can be very windy, especially in summer. The other beach is a 5-10 min walk from Panormos village towards the German hotel up the Rethymnon road westwards. Both beaches have sun beds and parasols to hire (€5 for both). In the background (right on the beach) is another little bar.

Panormos is located about an hours bus ride westwards from Heraklion. And around 25 km from Rethymnon. It is on the main highway so is easily reached by car or public transport. Simply head for Rethymnon and you can't go wrong. With its quiet unspoiled streets and bags of cretan character, Panormos is a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful place to stay. More detailed information is available from the menu to the right regarding Panormos. Looking left from our balcony. A typical street in Panormos.

Panormos isn't the sort of place you should visit if Club 18-30 is your idea of a good time. And if it is - no offence intended - go elsewhere! There are a few bars in the village bat as you can guess, its not really that sort of boozy place. Two bars we went to are located near the tavernas on the eating. Page and another bar is slightly further inland from the beach. The beach itself has a couple of bars doing cocktails and beers soft drinks but these are not open late. Here are some pictures!

If you've got a car, there are loads of things to see on Crete though it is a big Island. We didn't and couldn't be bothered anyway :-). Here are a few things you can do locally without your own transport. A 15 min taxi or 35 min bus ride will see you in the closet big town of Rethymnon which is worth a day out. Buses go frequently though not late at night. Back street in Rethymnon. For a more comprehensive description of the town. Inside the castle walls. Big waves. Not ideal swimming weather! If you're...

There are plenty of small shops in Panormos to get your holiday essentials as well as two mini markets and a bakery. Pottery seems to be somthing of a speciality with several places selling hand crafted wares which are worth a look. For a broader range of shops, head for Rethymnon (35 mins away by bus). See places to visit. For more information on Rethymnon. 2004 - 2005 Richard Smith - Skinsuit Web Services. Recipes - The Online Cookerybook.

Welcome to my web site celebrating my lovely way-to-short holiday in the wonderful village of Panormos on the Greek island of Crete. We visited (the girlfriend and I) in September 2004. On a package tour (I know, not very adventurous of me :-). I absolutely adored Panormos with its quiet little unspoiled streets and Cretan charm, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice relaxing time. Here are a few pictures. Village beach looking left. Evening life near the harbour. A bar near the harbour.

Well, I hope you've found this site useful! I remember thinking when I was trying to decide where I wanted to go in Crete I wish I could find some more information about Panormos but I found little on the net that wasn't adverts for holidays - hardly unbiased! If you want to leave a message on this site, register and post on the forums. Note that you must register before you can post anything. If you want to email me personally (names of the tavernas would be very handy! Recipes - The Online Cookerybook.
