A Virginia native, CLIO winning director/cinematographer, father and sailor, Bill has been drawn to sailboats most of his life. At 22, he ran away with some pals on the leaky old (1901) Skipjack Freddie. The voyage ended when Freddie was stolen and wrecked on the outer banks of North Carolina. Bill captured the images for Skipjack Sunday at Deal Island in 1967,. Not long after leaving the Richmond TV station WRVA as a producer/cameraman, . In 1968 he founded Colony Productions. Forty-five years ago an idea burning bright to film the Deal Island Skipjack race, and a brand new Arriflex film camera, itching for exciting subjects to film, took a younger me to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. By chance, the week before and unrelated, a new scanner arrived that could scan two and a quarter negatives, so wow, we had a way to get a look at them. While practically none of this could be proven serendipitous, consider the following events all within two weeks of the film can's appearance.

Next in importance to finding the negatives are the 300 hours devoted to their digital restoration, without which they would've been impossible to to reclaim. The ravages of time have been erased without a trace, the years turned back. May they help preserve the Skipjack in our hearts and move us to help protect the few that remain.
