Location - Húsavík, Iceland. Húsavík is located in North East Iceland, 480 km from the capital Reykjavík and about an hour drive from the biggest town in North Iceland, Akureyri. The local name Húsavík is believed to be one of the oldest toponyms known in Iceland. The “Book of Settlement“ tells about the Swedish viking Garðar Svavarsson, who sailed around Iceland in the year 870 and spent one winter in Húsavík.

Skuld before renovation in 2005. When Páll built Skuld it was one floor with a small attic, the floor measuring only about 30 square meters. There was a small basement with a laundry room and a large cauldron where women from the neighbourhood often gahtered to boil their “slátur”. South of the house was a small cowshed which the owners of Skuld shared with one of their neighbours. In the year 1980 the town of Húsavík bought the house and moved it across the street because of road construction.

Café Skuld offers variety of souvenirs, especially whale and whale watching related merchandise. Conventional T-shirts, hats and cups with various whale and bird themes can be found there. Also, a good selection of books on whales and birds in many different languages. Special North Sailing labeled clothing and objects are for sale as well as handmade crafts, unique to Café Skuld. Café Skuld is definitely the best place in town to sit down and relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of beer. Because of its location the weather is usually nice there, the sun shines at the veranda almost the whole day long but you can also cozy yourself inside to escape from the occasional raindrops. All of this makes Café Skuld a lively place, people stopping by on their way to or from the whale watching boats. From time to time live music and other events take place at the veranda by Café Skuld.
