Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Friday, November 7, 2014. In the spirit of fortune-telling that characterizes my new poetry book, here's a random selection. I didn't write the hoax. I scratch over the revelation. Words fall on my head like stones on the roof,. A crack on my tongue, smoke in my palms. Divinity cleans up after the devil. When I write my bible, heaven will flood the bathroom floor. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Skull and Book Press. Is available in print. Rock and Roll Soniye.

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Friday, August 12, 2011. If Loving You is Wrong. NPR recently did a survey of Top 100 Science Fiction/Fantasy Books. And the top 10 came out fairly predictably:. The Lord of the Rings. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Chronicles, Frank Herbert. A Song of Ice and Fire. Series, George RR Martin. Indulges). But sometimes one can't resist the temptation. By the way, I was tipped off to this via The Silver Key. John Brunner (not listed). Or Brave New World.

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. At Least They Don't Call Her "Girlie" Anymore. Above is one of my top favorite comic-book panels of all time. Natasha Vs. the Man-Bull! So, the Internet is ablaze with people who are angry at Marvel for the shortage of female superheroes in their movies and their treatment of women characters. That means every OTHER studio in the world is giving us loads of movies about women superheroes, right? Who actually are members of a superhe...

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Wednesday, September 24, 2014. 1970s Mix Tape, Vol. 2. Back in May, when I posted the contents of this strange '70s artifact. I happened to come across, I had no idea that in a few months, the idea of 1970s cassette tape mixes of random, mostly dumb music would suddenly be all the rage. I knew very little about Guardians of the Galaxy. And am pretty sure I hadn't even seen that first trailer. Yet, which prominently featured " Hooked on a Feeling. People are...

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. That's an actual item from my "to-do" list for today. I'm living the good life! I actually got interviewed in the local paper about the reading, which is not exactly in my comfort zone. I always sound a little like an old-school Val ("it's like, kind of, you know, sort of, and stuff"), but that's what happens in conversation! So I'm going to write up what I meant to say, in a slightly more articulate form. Skull and Book Press.

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Friday, August 3, 2012. From the newsletter of a local cathedral:. All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer but not to refrain from receiving Holy Communion.". Well, I was going to refrain, because I thought I was supposed to, but then they said I was welcome not to! I know, I haven't posted in like a million years, and this is what I come back with . but I was thinking to myself, I need to post ths somewhere!

Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Friday, May 10, 2013. The Nerds, Posters, and Hipsters Trilogy, Part Three: O, the Irony! Besides posers, "hipsters" are another much-condemned group. My particular observations on the subject were spurred by an article called "How to Live Without Irony," which I felt completely missed the point of just about everything. Old Weird. Dead. Beautiful. That's what I like. Saturday, May 24, 2014. Proof that music snobs are made, not born? The latest-released song on this compilation came out in February 1979, shortly after I turned 14, so it couldn't have been recorded earlier than that. What kills me about this artifact is that it provides evidence that I liked all these songs enough to tape them. I can't imagine actually wanting to listen to "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? Which is a very cool rock star pastime.
