A Musician at Sea. Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Straight Point, Victoria, Astoria and San Fransisco. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Jazz and the BBC. WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Check out this recent panel discussion. About jazz coverage on the BBC. It's pretty interesting to hear that jazz music is growing popular again across the Atlantic. I'd be pretty interested to look into why that might be. There was a great broadcast from Fresh Air today, that finished with a review. Of some newly released Ella Fitzgerald.

A Musician at Sea. Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Straight Point, Victoria, Astoria and San Fransisco. Thursday, October 14, 2010. It's been a quiet few months at this blog, but I can assure you it has been less than quiet for myself. New home, new workplace, a completely new lifestyle has taken its toll on my ability to remain grounded, but I'm here again and will do my best to take up where I had left off. Some notable music stuff from the last few weeks:. Brings an update of the next Portland Jazz Festival.

A Musician at Sea. Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Straight Point, Victoria, Astoria and San Fransisco. Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Been going to the library here every few days and picking up three albums to be copied and listened to. I'll try and keep you up to date on the especially good ones, starting with this gem from Billy Childs. I picked up an album by Bill Frisell, of who I haven't heard much of but a lot about. I'll be checking that one out tomorrow. Seattle based trumpeter Jason Parker.

A Musician at Sea. Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Straight Point, Victoria, Astoria and San Fransisco. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. I struggled a great deal about what I could write about this week, until I saw this blog discussion. Over at Ian Carey's blog on the topic of funding of jazz music, the decline in playing venues and the general ability to make a living as a jazz musician. Or as many of us like to say, earning our "Bread." The topic as also spilled over to Patrick Jarenwattananon's A Blog Supreme.

Armizare & Co.: New Year

http://bunkaijuju.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-year.html

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Happy New Year everyone! After having not really updated this blog since September that is going to be one of my focuses this new year - to be better at this blogging thing. It might not always be insightful because of grad school (starting this summer and going straight through to next summer) but hopefully it will at least keep me thinking about WMA. My WMA related goals for 2013:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Saturday, August 4, 2012. Wednesday, August 1, 2012. One Mind, Any Weapon. The thing I love about the mindset of "One Mind, Any Weapon" is that is applies to anything and everything. Think of all the ads you've seen for DVDs or books that will teach you to use improvised weapons - magazines, pens, books, backpacks, etc. All of that is covered in "One Mind, Any Weapon". Armizare & Co.: March 2012

http://bunkaijuju.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Friday, March 30, 2012. Hammer play in recent games. I love to play role-playing video games. As a medievalist and WMA practitioner, this has to be carefully done lest my head 'spode from all the fantasy armour and weapons. Let's not even get into the fighting styles (that much spinning around would make me dizzy as hell). However, I've been playing Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. And Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning. Here are the hammers from Reckoning:. In the...

http://bunkaijuju.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Tuesday, February 25, 2014. It's like an episode of "The Walking Dead" - I'm back! Thing is I am in the middle of graduate school - getting my Master of Art in Teaching and it is swallowing all of my time. But that doesn't mean I am ignoring HEMA and Armizare. It just means that I am not being as active as I used to be. Today, however, I decided to post about something that is a question that has been buzzing around in my brain for some time now.

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Monday, April 23, 2012. Poleaxe based on Talhoffer take-apart axe. Poleaxe from a smith in the Neatherlands. A really pretty interpretation - personally I'd prefer the top of the haft to be more like the one in Talhoffer, that is, a narrowed metal cap which the head fits onto rather than the screw present on this one, but it's still a really, really nice interpretation. Wednesday, April 11, 2012. A re-examination of Le Jeu de la Hache. It will be dif...

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Friday, April 19, 2013. After Action Report: Bob Charrette's Armoured Combat Workshop. That's okay, I'm in armour." - Bob Charrette. On April 16th, 2013 the Northwest Fencing Academy hosted the esteemed Bob Charrette for a one day workshop on fighting in armour. While the focus was on Armizare (I mean, he wrote a book. But that shouldn't surprise anyone! The honor of First Among Equals (the person who, in the eyes of the judges [or a field vote] show...

The musings and tribulations of a medieval enthusiast. Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
