McWicz: Sustainability Eh?
http://mcwicz.blogspot.com/2007/02/sustainability-eh.html
Tuesday, February 20, 2007. In other news, Demitri beat me at scrabble last night 283 to 234. He took a commanding lead when he put down "cleaved" and used all his letters for a bonus 50 points. I on the other hand had 5 'i's', an 'o' and a 'y', which was obviously pretty sweet. Still it was better than being cloistered like last time he put down all his letters! If you loved the movie "Word Wars". You'll be interested to know that this guy (left) just took over number one spot as the US scrabble champ!

Spirit and Adventure: December 2014
http://spiritandadventure.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, 4 December 2014. Free Stuff to Do in Hong Kong. After back-to-back 4 hr flights from Sarong to Jakarta and then Jakarta to Hong Kong, Andrew and I took a couple more days in Hong Kong to relax before the long flight back to Canada. I am so impressed by how many free pubic spaces there are in Hong Kong. Places that would normally charge an entry fee anywhere else. We really loved the hike around Victoria Peak. The Man Po Temple. Which is looked after by the nuns from the Chi Lin Nunnery. Raja Am...

Friday, 28 February 2014. After our hiking trip on the Arizona Trail we took a rest day to get cleaned up and catch up on photos and other computer stuff. The following day we were right back at it with a morning visit to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Which had a huge variety of plants and really nice trails) near Superior ( see Andrew's photos here. And then afternoon sport climbing at Queen Creek. These descriptive and decorative tiles were placed throughout the Arboretum. Andrew getting ready to start...

Spirit and Adventure: Out of the Nest -- First Flight
http://spiritandadventure.blogspot.com/2015/03/out-of-nest-first-flight.html
Sunday, 22 March 2015. Out of the Nest - First Flight. Finally, conditions were looking better and it was time to fly. As Andrew got out his phone Saturday morning to call Chris to make sure things were still on, my heart immediately started to beat faster. I looked at the clouds . . . wondering . . . almost hoping for an excuse. That’s how nervous I was! From our beginner group, there was me, Andrew and Mel ready to take our first flight. Testing us, Chris called the three of us together and said, &...

Perspectives from where the air is clear. Capitalism - Back to the Future? Ice Climbing in the Polar Vortex. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Capitalism - Back to the Future? I just finished reading 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism. Among the list are the following:. There is no such thing as a free market. Companies should NOT be run in the interest of their owners. Most people in rich countries are paid more than they should be. Free-market policies rarely make poor countries rich. What is g...

Spirit and Adventure: October 2014
http://spiritandadventure.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 9 October 2014. I'm not much of a history buff but the culture and architecture of Nepal is quite fascinating. There are so many interesting temples, shrines, gods, goddesses and intricate designs. On the way back from Nagarkot we stopped at the city of Bhaktapur. And later went to Durbar Square in Kathmandu. Both are protected heritage areas and both had an entrance fee with money being used for conservation and restoration efforts. Edge of carved door in Bhaktapur. Door carving in Bhaktapur.

Spirit and Adventure: August 2015
http://spiritandadventure.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 23 August 2015. Family, good food, wine tastings and beautiful scenery! Since we hadn't seen Andrew's sister, Clare, for almost two years, we decided to take a slight detour from our U.S. vacation and head up to Victoria for a couple days. We took the Victoria Clipper, a passenger ferry, and left the car in Seattle. With Andrew's other sister, Penny, also in Victoria right now, it was a family reunion. Yes, a very small family compared to the Ballard clan! Along the harbour walkway. The lenses we...

Monday, March 05, 2007. The perils of change. No, I don't mean something different, but actually $ in coin form. Yesterday I rolled over $80.00 in pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters (no loonies or toonies). So anyone want to go for a coffee? It was so lovely to see you last week! Let's do it again soon - but at a place that is open past 8pm! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). People of the world. The perils of change. The 2010 Olympics may . Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
