It began in April 2011, in Toronto, when a police officer uttered the now infamous advice that, .women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized. The officer’s very specific word choice is what inspired our very specific name choice. SlutWalk has become a worldwide movement, working to end victim-blaming and slut-shaming, and to raise awareness about sexual assault and change cultural attitudes (rape culture) so we can end sexual violence.
