Day breaks with some rain and plenty of cloud, giving us an excuse to sort out our luggage, dumping plenty of stuff like flyers, old tickets, plastic bags, containers that are useful when travelling. Monday, October 27, 2008. Penang, 27 October 2008. After taking a look at some instructions using the facilities at the hotels internet center, I refresh the authentication certificates on my Pocket PC and restore my mobile email. Its still pretty busy in the hotel, although at lunchtime there seems to be an exodus. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Penang, 25 October 2008. The weather has changed from being cloudy and very humid to sunny and less humid but still tropical. The sky is also very clear and you can see for miles. This is despite a forecast of thunderstorms. We eat at another stall at the hawkers market, one of the best so far. Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Melbourne, 22 October 2008. In the morning I have a meeting with a new business associate who just happens to live in Melbourne. We push off for an hour or so for a coffee on the esplanade. Then its back to Pauline, whos reserved a table at a restaurant on the esplanade, where we eat Caesars Salad (Pauline), Gnochi (Marijke) and Grilled Sardines (Mark). The towers are open when we arrive around 1000 but the viewing area is closed for maintenance so we push off back to the hotel for a while. Theres a spa and massage place next to the hotel, with various treatments like hot stone therapy and cupping but the also have a treatment where youre surrounded with goldfish in plastic bags. Friday, October 24, 2008. Penang, 24 October 2008. Not prepared to fork out RM28 each for breakfast at the hotel, we just have tea and coffee and one of the Australian muesli bars that are still in our luggage. The humidity is quite high and that makes drying washed clothes a challenge but slipping a sock around the mouth of a hairdryer works well, with the sock steaming visibly. The first thing we do is eat lunch at a place very similar to our usual in KL. Rice with beef/lamb and veg for RM11.
