Small Steps for Sustainability: June 2015

http://smallstepsforsustainability.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Small Steps for Sustainability. One household attempts to tread more gently. Take the stairs. or the lift. While working in the city for a few months, I have made the effort to take the stairs rather than the lift (that's 'elevator' for you friends in the USA). When they are such beautiful stairs as these, its hard not to. Mostly I do it for the pleasure of the stairs, and for my health, but it also seemed the obvious sustainable choice. It seems, on account of the system of counterweights. Initial Time:...

Small Steps for Sustainability: Introduction

http://smallstepsforsustainability.blogspot.com/2010/01/introduction.html

Small Steps for Sustainability. One household attempts to tread more gently. Linked with our rental accommodation is that our income is relatively small. Spending a lot of money to save the planet may be exactly what governments and big business need to do, but for our little family it is not feasible. There will be no Prius in the drive any time soon! August 16, 2016 at 1:09 PM. I will be interested to read all of your blogs and hope that you are finding it challenging and life-changing. Global crisis t...

Small Steps for Sustainability: May 2015

Small Steps for Sustainability. One household attempts to tread more gently. I am two days into a three day conference that includes lunch and snacks, with disposable plates and cups and cutlery. So today I took my own. Which is such a simple thing that this is going to be my shortest blog post ever. Initial Time: two minutes to pack, two minutes to clean, two minutes to unpack at home. Ongoing time or cost commitment: six minutes again tomorrow. That they were chucking stuff away after a single use.

Small Steps for Sustainability: April 2014

http://smallstepsforsustainability.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Small Steps for Sustainability. One household attempts to tread more gently. Grapes in a rental garden. Grapevines are wonderful. They provide good shade in summer, drop their leaves to allow sun in winter, don't need much water or loving care, and best of all: they grow grapes! But in a rental garden, are they possible? But what I really wanted was for the vine to provide shade for the front of the house. The main support was a branch salvaged when trimming the gum tree. Our vine has now spent two summe...

Small Steps for Sustainability: Getting to school without getting in the car

http://smallstepsforsustainability.blogspot.com/2015/07/ride-walk-scooter-bus-to-school.html

Small Steps for Sustainability. One household attempts to tread more gently. Getting to school without getting in the car. Our Big Girl started full-time school this year (Pre-Primary). Best friends on the bus on the first day of school, back in February. The school is 1.6km from our house - exactly one mile. There is a very busy road to cross. However, we have committed to getting her there without getting in the car. Driving takes about 5 minutes, so all these options add time. Suggests that taking the...

David and Heather: November 2012

http://prangnells.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 29, 2012. Asher sings the ABC's. kind of! Posted by David and Heather. Friday, November 23, 2012. Asher has had four swimming lessons so far this summer, and hes screamed his way though three of the four. The last time the water was a LOT warmer and I was being hyper-silly-happy to coerce him into a happier mood. And the combination worked. However, his favourite part of going swimming is playing on the playground afterwards. Posted by David and Heather. Friday, November 16, 2012.

The Colliwat Collation: August 2014

http://colliwat.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Quirky stories about gardening and sustainable lifestyle. Rainfall at Colliwat Farm. Sunday, 17 August 2014. We finally made it to Jerry Coleby-Williams. Here are some photos from the day:. The popular and lush cocoyam. The bees love this flowering turnip. First fleet lettuce - many salad days ahead. Give me a home among the.pandanus. The gorgeously scented Rondeletia now Rogiera. Still room for some ornamentation using chives as a border. Sugar palm - no sumatran tiger or rhino habitat lost here.

Quirky stories about gardening and sustainable lifestyle. Rainfall at Colliwat Farm. Sunday, 20 April 2014. Upcycle Projects 2: Chalkboard. You'd think you'd be spared the copious amounts of packaging that simple purchases always bring when a larger purchase is involved. On the contrary; it seems to come festooned with even more! The idea had struck me long before, and upon a reluctant excursion to the big green warehouse we remembered to buy what would make the idea reality: a paintbrush and some chalkb...
