Wednesday, March 14, 2007. I am SO Shallow. That's a lot of weight to lose, even over an eight-week period. Especially when it wasn't done on purpose. So did I feel sorry for him that he was SO sick and lost all that weight? Did I express sympathy or distress? No, I said "You look good like that." And I'm thinking that I'm going to stop putting dessert in his lunch. Posted by Sarah at 9:55 PM. Monday, March 12, 2007. The Girl, the Dragon, and the Wild Magic. Patricia C. Wrede. Why can't I study fencing?

Saturday, April 14, 2007. People who think that California is liberal make me laugh. Where did Ronald Reagan find his springboard to national politics? Who is our governor now? If we're so tax and spend, how did Proposition 13 pass? I think we can all agree that politicians are often a slimy bunch. I've made no secret of the fact that I disliked Bill Clinton's presidency. Just not as much as I disliked Reagan and dislike Bush. To quote the bumper sticker, "When Clinton lied, no one died.". As any mother ...

Wednesday, May 31, 2006. And hello Elizabeth (and her aftermath). Bonus question: what's the connection between these two historical personages? So I finished The Last Voyage of Columbus. And have started After Elizabeth. So far, the story of politics and intrigue toward the end of Elizabeth I's reign is much more gripping than the sea voyages of Columbus. Those Tudors! I also read In the Company of Cheerful Women. Which I can and will read, but find somewhat slow going. Did you figure out the answer yet?

Friday, June 30, 2006. Does he really think that nobody who ever gets ripped off by a big-name restaurant can tell the difference? After the fact, what, exactly, are they supposed to do? Not go there anymore? Posted by Sarah at 7:43 AM. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Posted by Sarah at 7:08 AM. Summary: I think school busses are a bad idea and I'm glad my kids don't have to deal with them. Posted by Sarah at 7:00 AM. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. I'll start off with an anecdote - this happened this afternoon.

Sunday, February 25, 2007. OK, so I haven't posted here in a long time. What have I been doing? Well, spending time with my kids for starters. Also knitting. Now that I think about it, since Christmas my count is something like four hats, two and half scarves, one super long scarf that is almost finished, and half a sweater. Yes, the Yarn Harlot has changed my life; and thank you, Vivian, very much for helping the process along. I like Cornelia Funke. Loves this author, and has read Dragonrider. REALLY l...

Sunday, July 09, 2006. Department of Silver Linings. You know what the upside is of having an electronic car key that costs upwards of $200 to replace? When I tell my husband that I can't remember where I put it, he finds it for me, and pretty darn quickly, too. You want to know what the upside is of losing ten pounds in six weeks due to enormous stress resulting in a loss of ability to eat that borders on the anorexic? My wedding ring fits again. Saturday, September 30, 2006. Reason 94: Breakfast in San Francisco. Why do I homeschool my kids? An anecdote, that is also a reason:. While we were having breakfast one day, Maya started asking me about Queen Elizabeth I, her sister Queen Mary, etc. Why? The couple at the table next to us left to start their day of tourism in the city, and as they passed our table the husband leaned over and said I love the way you’re teaching your children, Mom. Friday, October 27, 2006. The long day of the hedonist. 7:00 Get out of bed. Go downstairs and make coffee. One cup is for me, the rest goes into a thermos for Nabil to drink later. Eat some leftover ravioli while I start making his lunch. The plan is to have breakfast in Santa Cruz, but I'm hungry. 8:00 Everyone is ready to go. Ziad and Maya have leftover pancakes and milk to have in the car. Maya decides she has to use the bathroom. Double check that everything is ready. 9:15 Nature studies class leave...

Sunday, November 26, 2006. Anyway, my mother's mother, although completely hopeless at housework (because of spending her formative years doing farm chores) somehow grew up to be a wonderful cook. A wonderful baker, anyway. What I remember most is the hot applesauce she would serve at dinner, and the apple cake she taught me to make. And fruitcake. I asked her to bring all her stuff over to my house so we could make it together. (No way I'm taking that job on all by myself.). It really wasn't that much w...
