The Linhay
http://www.smilingsheep.co.uk/index.php/linhay-b-and-b
Cottage Industry - Smallholding Life in Devon. The Linhay was originally an open, thatched, grain store/barn, set down independently a few yards from the main house, overlooking the orchard of apple and plum trees. We think that it was built at the same time as the cottage, probably in the early 18th century. It was later converted into a fully enclosed space but, by the time we arrived, it was in need of a bit of an overhaul. Smallholder Workshops and Walking Breaks. Wool
http://www.smilingsheep.co.uk/index.php/handmade-throws
Cottage Industry - Smallholding Life in Devon. We produce a small number of shawls, throws and scarves, hand woven in Devon with the natural, undyed wool of our rare breed sheep and, in 2016, we added Balwen knitting wool (aran and double knit) to our collection. These are very special and unique gifts, celebrating the history and sustainability of our woolly heritage. The sheep are shorn each year by Sam - a local shepherd (a former World Young Shepherd of the year! Based in Bovey Tracey on Dartmoor....
The Smiling Sheep
http://www.smilingsheep.co.uk/index.php
Cottage Industry - Smallholding Life in Devon. Separate from the main house, we have a private little converted grainstore (known as The Linhay) available for bed and breakfast. This is a Sawday's Special Place and was featured in the Daily Telegraph last year as one of 10 British B&Bs with "real character". We produce delicious, home cooked (and home grown) food and a seasonal supper menu for those who want to just kick back and relax. We hope to see you soon! Designed by ZipFish Web Design.
Meat boxes
http://www.smilingsheep.co.uk/index.php/meat-boxes
Cottage Industry - Smallholding Life in Devon. Unlike commercial pigs that are described as "outdoor bred" (but spend the vast majority of their lives in indoor pens), our pigs get to see the sky and feel the grass under their trotters every single day. The additional advantages of the Smiling Sheep approach are that we can shear our flock and use their fleeces for our throws and shawls. And, best of all, the meat that they produce is superb. It has a deep, delicious flavour ( like lamb used to taste...

Musings on food and history. The occasional blog of food historian Annie Gray. Musings, rantings and recipe research. Yet more Twelfth Cake. December 22, 2016. I’ve been lecturing like a beast, living on oatcakes and cheese as I drive around the country in my increasingly crumb-filled car. It’s Christmas, again, which means time for my annual plea to bring back the Twelfth Cake. Really. Seriously. What IS the point of Christmas Cake? You could still to the bean and pea thing? And to prove I put my money ...

For those of you who are raising an eyebrow at the thought of mutton, DO NOT DARE. Mutton, in my view, is far superior to its fatty, flaccid offspring, lamb, and has both a better taste and texture. Life and times of one of the herd. And her knitting obsession. Friday, February 26, 2010. So, at the Wicked Faire. I had one set of gloves sell. There was apparently some interest in custom colors. Should I open a Etsy shop and try to sell some of my stuff? So the deal is you pay 20 cents for every uploaded picture (item for sale). Then when you complete a sale you pay a 3.5% fee to Etsy. So, that's not hugely expensive, but I'm not sure if selling nothing will affect my self-esteem. Table for sale. ...

My Classics Club List. 2015 Newbery Reading Challenge. I reread the Chronicles of Narnia this year for about the twenty billionth time (seriously, I have completely lost track of how many times I have read this series. It's probably not that many, but close! No matter how many times I read these books, I never get tired of them. They are still some of my all-time favorite books.
