Software development fragments and thoughts. Monday, July 13, 2015. WPF ProgressBar IsIndeterminate behavior. Today I found that hiding (collapsing) a WPF ProgressBar. Smiling Smith: Layout Cycle Detected - My story

http://smilingsmith.blogspot.com/2013/10/layout-cycle-detected-my-story.html

Software development fragments and thoughts. Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Layout Cycle Detected - My story. If you are reading this then probably you hit one of the Silverlight errors I dread the most. Sometimes you see an error message, other times your screen just goes blank. Once I managed to intercept an exception in Visual Studio's debugger, but that was a very lucky shot. There are a few links on the web that explain what is going on, and I followed this one on StackOverflow. My solution was very s...

Smiling Smith: MediaElement and downloaded sound

http://smilingsmith.blogspot.com/2011/02/mediaelement-and-downloaded-sound.html

Software development fragments and thoughts. Friday, February 11, 2011. MediaElement and downloaded sound. In a nutshell: when you download a sound file to play on a MediaElement. Make sure you set the AutoPlay. If you call SetSource. With the download stream. This stream does not support seeks, so it must play immediately. If you want to store the sound to play it later, store it in a MemoryStream. It supports seeks). I found this out the hard way. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Smiling Smith: The skewed accelerometer

http://smilingsmith.blogspot.com/2011/02/skewed-accelerometer.html

Software development fragments and thoughts. Saturday, February 12, 2011. What can you do if your WP7 accelerometer is not correctly calibrated? As I found out, there seems to be no OS mechanism to calibrate the accelerometer. So if you have a production device you will have to return it for repair or replacement. But what do you do if you have a loaner preproduction device like I do? Well, you have to fix the accelerometer the only way you can: through software. After running this app on the floor, I no...

Native Mobile: May 2009

http://nativemobile.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Thoughts on native mobile development on Microsoft platforms. Saturday, May 30, 2009. Is Native Code Hard? If you read this blog then probably your answer is, like mine, no. So what's the difference between native and managed that makes people avoid native code like the plague? What makes people not want to come back? In my opinion there are a few reasons, especially for Windows Mobile native code:. Is it safe to do it now? Are there other objects referring to it? There are two basic approaches to automa...

Thoughts on native mobile development on Microsoft platforms. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. And now for something completely different. I just spotted a native code pearl on Todo PocketPC. Media player for Windows Mobile 5. The interesting thing about this application is that it comes with full source code (licensed under the GNU GPL v3). The media player looks very good and I will be giving it a spin (I really don't like any of the media players bundled with my HTC Touch Pro). Links to this post. That is used...

Native Mobile: August 2009

http://nativemobile.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Thoughts on native mobile development on Microsoft platforms. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. First I changed how the window scrolls by removing the timer. How do you force the window to scroll without a timer? This class delegates to its children through the "static virtual" Paint. To help with both scrolling and clicking, I added a new class named CTouchGesture. That essentially handles all the data coming from the stylus (mouse) messages and helps CTouchWindow. Sample code: AppStart01.zip. Links to this post.

Sunday, May 9, 2010. An Update and it's been a year. So, first and foremost we are long overdue for an update. Sadie is a big and beautiful girl. She's been holding steady at around 32 lbs for several months now. She keeps getting taller, though, so she's thinning out a bit. We think she is around 34". She's now 20 months old, which means that it's only 4 months until we won't be counting her age in months anymore! Bottle, Where's it at? "Smiling's My Favorite"

Saturday, October 10, 2009. What a great weekend! Hiking down the mountain. It was quite slick and steep toward the top! How cute are they! Here we are making our way down Stone Mountain. We weren't quite brave enough to trek up the mountain, which probably was a smart idea because going down wasn't a cakewalk either! We were thankful for the nice semi-cool day and semi-cool water fountains at the bottom of the mountain! These are such precious children! Thursday, May 14, 2009. I am slowly learning the t...
