سميراء . بفتح فكسر ممدود . تقع في الجهة الجنوبية الشرقية من منطقة حائل على خط الطول 26 درجة 44 55 شمالا وخط العرض 42 درجة 6 55 شرقا على ارتفاع 1970 قدم فوق مستوى سطح البحر , ومدينة سميراء تقع على طريق حائل سميراء البتراء وتبعد عن مدينة حائل بحوالي 160 كم. وقد ذكر ياقوت الحموي أنها سميت برجل من عاد يقال له ( سميراء ), أما السكوني فقد قال : أن حولها جبالا وآكاما سودا وبذلك سميت سميراء .
