Will / Panic / Pastor / Dub (. Will / Panic / Pastor / Dub. Katatonia - Clean Today. When I run, say, emerge -vp system, here's a snippet of the output:. For some reason, it lists a bunch of packages to reinstall. If I do reinstall it, it stays in the list. Any ideas? This is pretty annoying. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. This is my first Gentoo install, so there's a good chance I've done something wrong at any step along the way. Every time I try to emerge some things, it spits out a huge circular dependencies error, most everything depending on xorg-server. The full error is here, from when I tried to install xorg-x11: http:/ nwatson.org/stuff/emerge-xorg-x1. Emerge - info at http:/ nwatson.org/stuff/emerge-inf. Post a new comment. Unusual knitting post - Knit-a-long. Jan 4th, 2009 10:39 am. Mostly a political blog, but a pair of gloves show up. 2009-01-05 08:47 am (UTC). Well, what's the point of being a knitter if you can't knit-to-fit? 2009-01-06 03:11 am (UTC). I've always wanted to make a glove with 6 fingers on the left hand. Then stuff the 6th finger, just to see what looks I would get . . . Maybe I have too much free time to think.

Marked for future reference, Definitely. Now to find a supplier of Noro Kureyon! Hmmm, could well be next winter, or the winter afterwards. Or maybe I could do a version with odds and ends, plenty of those to hand.

Keepin' that Gentoo love-hate alive. Did a DirectFb update yesterday, with a highly keyworded/unmasked system, and it turned out that anything involved with gtk was tits-up because the libdirectfb-0.9.2.so was gone. So I had the fun of repeatedly trying startx (a total of three times) and putting symlinks in /usr/lib to forward to the new version. Everything is easy when you know how to do it, but that seems like a fairly avoidable PITA. If I was a greener FNG, I'd have been stymied. Post a new comment.

Kernel config and SATA woes: gentoo
http://gentoo.livejournal.com/277538.html
Kernel config and SATA woes. When I boot from the LiveCD 2006.1, I see that it loads modules libata, ata piix, and sata mv. I can certainly mount my desired / partition and chroot to it at will. However, I cannot use genkernel to create a bootable system. I'm getting errors that suggest I haven't got the right hardware drivers to mount /. My basic question: is there any place that shows clearly a mapping between all kernel modules and the kernel configuration parameters? Post a new comment.

http://gentoo.livejournal.com/278442.html
According to wikipedia, dvd=ram works more or less the same as a hard drive, and linux supports the drives rather well. So if the dvd-ram can be written to and read from in the same manor as a normal hard disk, whats stopping me from having a bootable dvd-ram to run linix from without farting about with dual booting and/or memory sticks or shared partitions for the normal live-cd's?
