Contemplating Texas from the train | smooth liminal
https://smoothliminal.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/contemplating-texas-from-the-train
Living in the in-between. Wednesday 22 July 2015. Contemplating Texas from the train. I spent just over a decade living in Texas, but it feels like the most foreign place I visit, a place I can hardly understand because it shares so few of my values. But I guess I’m more of an opportunist because I prefer living in places that already reflect my beliefs. And maybe I’m dreadfully unimaginative because I don’t know where I would start in Texas. I was young and innocent. I didn’t have words like r...Wednesd...

Living in the in-between. Tuesday 16 June 2015. Have I mentioned we’re moving? We are, to Madison, Wisconsin, where Devin will do a Ph.D. and I will do a T.B.D. ; ). Today was my last day of work in New York. Usually the office has a great view of the skyline, but today the view was blocked by heavy clouds, like a curtain falling at the end of a play. One thought on “ Curtain. Tuesday 16 June 2015 at 10:59 am. Kristy Dear, darkness always precedes light! Much admiration and love, Grandma Pat.
Views From The Train | smooth liminal

Living in the in-between. Thursday 2 July 2015. Views From The Train. When Devin and I decided we were moving away, we also had some ideas about how to spend the summer. We could stay in New York and pay rent. We could sublet our apartment and use the money to visit family and friends instead. I mean, not to be too dramatic, but that’s like the Sophie’s choice of social calendars. So we packed our bags and boarded a westbound train at Penn Station. (A train? I’m glad you asked! MADE: SUMMER WRAPS | smooth liminal

Living in the in-between. Sunday 31 May 2015. I’ve been feeling pretty weird about sharing this recipe because I used collard greens, which have traditionally been used in African-American cuisine and have recently been aggressively marketed by Whole Foods. In hopes of making them trendy and driving up the price. (Writer/feminist/activist Mikki Kendall aptly calls this “food gentrification.”. The good news: you can use. To make these wraps, you’ll need. Meaty filling (like tempeh. Tofu, or meat). If you’...

Living in the in-between. Monday 20 July 2015. Like a southbound train. I can hardly believe it, but it’s been two years since Devin and I got married! This whole thing started when I walked into the cafeteria and thought, “Who is that cute boy. And. Have I not seen him before? 8221; That was ages ago, but sometimes when I see Devin across a crowded room I still think, “Woah. Who is that? I think it’s because I never wear my glasses. Happy anniversary, Devin! Here’s to two (hundred) more. Next post →.

A man walks into an advertising agency. When I was in New York a couple of weekends ago I took a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens to see the Mad Men exhibition with my beloved friend Kristy. One part of the exhibition was, of course, the costumes, and I was reminded of one of Joan’s greatest outfits: the short-sleeved green dress she wears in the. Episode where a guy loses his foot to a lawnmower in the office. Here is Joan and dress, complete with blood.

Here, in the second part of my ‘books I loved the most in 2015’ roundup, I list my five favourite books from 2014/2015 that I read this year. It was only when I came to write this that I realised they were all by women. I don’t know what that says, but it’s probably not bad…. I enjoyed Bad Feminist. See here for my thoughts on A Little Life. Books of 2015: Something Old. December 14, 2015. A PALE VIEW OF HILLS.

A book blog by Bethany. About Bert’s Books. Books of 2015: Something Old. December 14, 2015. A PALE VIEW OF HILLS. THE LINE OF BEAUTY. Fascinating and gripping in its construction of an almost nightmarish world of power and privilege, not-fitting-in and secret lives. The political and social backdrop are absorbing, the characters are entirely believable and the world of the novel felt so real that I often think ‘that’s very The Line of Beauty’ when I walk around west London. Got to give it up. You are co...

November 19, 2014. In this edition of “watch my belly grow” I present: the blurriest, noisiest picture taken to date, and one with the proud papá! I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this already but we decided not to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. This is generally met with approval by people of my parents’ generation (“That’s how we did it! 8221;) and horror by people of my generation (“But how will you know how to decorate the nursery? I’m a big planner, too! So extra points for that, maybe?

Just another WordPress.com site. A Day in the Life: Friday February 1st 2013. Got up at 6.45 am and made tea. How nice that it’s so light so early now. Checked email and put up a blog post. A cold, grey morning in Brooklyn. Went to the dry cleaner’s. And to the co-op to get dates and cashews. Came back home and made cashew cardamom balls. Rolled them in coconut, and put them in tupperware to take to work. My last day at Candle Cafe. Had a quick breakfast of leftover kale, beans, beets and quinoa. And her...

My google calendar sent me an email reminding me of Grandpapa's birthday tomorrow. Yes, Grandpapa's birthday is/was on Cinco de Mayo. The whole country seems to be celebrating or ready to party which had always been part of a running joke with us. But this year it makes me a little bummed out and/or nostalgic.
