My brother’s best friend | Snapshots of Conversation

Short stories inspired by things I have overheard. My brother’s best friend. Not long ago. I turned it off. There’s some things you don’t want to see while you’re having elevenses. Even without your glasses on. Maybe she’d got married and had her own children. You’d always imagine the best wouldn’t you. She’s lucky, never knowing that her daughter turned out to be a mean petty thief with a taste for wrong ‘uns. Posted in February 2012. Have you got enough petrol? Lamb chops tomorrow →. Where am I going?

Short stories inspired by things I have overheard. I know snow when I see it. A squeal jolted me fully awake. Come on daddy, I know snow when I see it! A head poked round the door. Connie darling, could you pop down and stop Thomas rattling that bloody knob? Make sure he’s got his slippers on too, will you. And let Daisy in, she’ll be frozen poor thing, there’s a bone from last night in the pantry you can give her. I’ll feed Rose up here. 8220;I know snow when I see it” Hornsey N8 11 February 2013. Short stories inspired by things I have overheard. Have you got enough petrol? The woman had a face like a crumpled scrotum and usually wore a blue anorak with a tightly pulled belt around it and a pair of jeans that were too short and flapped around her ankles like Prince Charles’ ears. She hopped onto the bus with a goofy smile. “Have you got enough petrol? 8221; she asked the driver. 8220;I hope so,” replied Eddie as she beeped her Oyster card through the reader and guffawed at him. Mum rang in a righ...

Short stories inspired by things I have overheard. It might never happen. 8217; Then staggered off guffawing, tripping over a loose patch of carpet as he went. Jane cringed. Surely there was no sadder sight than a lone girl standing at the edge of a dancefloor, clutching an armful of coats while a tear ran down her face. Argh. 8216;Thanks hun, you’re a star. We’re going to get going, but I’ll see you in the cab queue. This is Eddie. Say hello Eddie…’. 8216;Cheers m’dear! 8216;Have you got me coat? Jane t...

Frances Ha | Rosebud's Revenge
https://soosie.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/frances-ha
Sue Griffith witters on about films. Full disclosure – I honestly didn’t expect to like this one. The oh so kooky trailer, the hipster hype, the unbearable tweeness of being I already had a good Frances Ho Hum line ready to roll. Oh, and the scene of Frances dancing through the streets of New York to Bowie’s Modern Love is sublime. I would have recreated it on my way home through the mean streets of Muswell Hill, but it was raining.]. 08/05/2015 - 1:56 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Follow me via email.

Force Majeure | Rosebud's Revenge
https://soosie.wordpress.com/2015/05/05/force-majeure
Sue Griffith witters on about films. A perfect-looking family of four go skiing in the French Alps – it looks like the ideal break, beautiful hotel, gorgeous slopes, everyone getting along. Then one morning, during breakfast, an avalanche crashes towards them. It’s a spectacular, terrifying moment. In that split second, is your first thought to save your family or yourself (and your smartphone)? I’m fairly sure everyone left the cinema thinking ‘what would I do? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. While We’re Young | Rosebud's Revenge
https://soosie.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/while-were-young
Sue Griffith witters on about films. While We’re Young. Noah Baumbach (or Noah Bumbag as I like to call him) has gone a lot more mainstream with his latest film, which follows the wonderful Frances Ha. He’s still got his finger on the hipster button, but here his foot is firmly on the irony pedal. Overall it’s an enjoyable look at middle age and rivalry with Stiller on good form, but for me it got a bit windy towards the end, particularly when the couples head off for a mountain retreat with some s...

Fotheringhay is a sleepy, picturesque little village in Northamptonshire, with a population of less than 200. Wednesday, August 7, 2013. A Few of My Favorite Things, August 7, 2013. I love tree branch picture frames, when the view from my back is a dusky sky surrounded by jagged leafy edges. I love the empty space in my arms on nights with no kids, where I can almost feel them cuddling into me, invisible heads nestled into the spot between my chin and my shoulders, a pellucid invisible hand on my cheek. I love the helpless peeping sounds ducklings make as they boldly forage across the pond. I love sunlight on my...

Glimpses of Perfection ~ Snapshots of Life
Glimpses of Perfection Snapshots of Life. Once in a while I actually get a snapshot of something that faintly reminds me of Eden or gives a glimpse of what's to come. Thursday, July 5, 2007. Home is where the Hollyhock is. Driving home late from a long day of work I spotted the lone hollyhock by a fence. or maybe it spotted me. It was as if the red bloom pulled my attention to itself with mighty strings, saying "come home.". Image from www.mooseyscountrygarden.com/./hollyhock.jpg. Tuesday, May 2, 2006.
