This unusually dry winter has meant that instead of sitting in front of the computer blogging about Little Swamp Creek I've been happily spending that time outside getting rid of blackberry bushes that have been burying some of the plants in the restoration project our neighbor's yard. From "North Creek and Swamp Creek Watershed Guidebook" by Snohomish County Public Works. All of the area in that map drains into Swamp Creek and ends up flowing through Kenmore. Indian Plum is the first deciduous shrub to show signs of life in our yard after winter, and here is one that is getting close to blooming already. This is one of the things that I anxiously look for in February as a sign that spring WILL be coming. Heron rookery at the Kenmore Park and Ride, 2/17/2012. Red-tailed hawk returns to nest in Kenmore's Wetland #3. Things we've seen along the stream in the last month or so -. Chickadees, of course.

A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to get these shots of one of the neighborhood Red-tailed hawks as it was flying close to our rooftop, possibly checking out our chickens.
