Greenland: Qeqertaq, Is It An Island? Posted on July 18, 2014. Is it really an island? I don’t know, lets find out. Of course we knew from that chart that we were on an island but there was something about the granite hills feeding into the mountains on the headland that made Frances ask the question with a mischievous smile. As we walked along the handle we could see icebergs on both sides, including one that was gloriously blue under the water with a discreet white fan of ice above. Looking back I ...

Perfect Day At Sea: Ice, Whales & Calm – Snow Dragon II

Perfect Day At Sea: Ice, Whales & Calm. Posted on June 9, 2014. The sky is alive, that’s the first thought that came to my mind at 5am this morning as I settled myself into the pilothouse navigation chair. I didn’t have long to admire it, Frances had woken me up with the news that the Wabasto heater was not working and she needed assistance changing out the fuel nozzle. An annoying task considering the heater had just come back from being serviced. 1 Comment on Perfect Day At Sea: Ice, Whales & Calm.

About – Snow Dragon II
https://snowdragon2.wordpress.com/about
Snow Dragon is our home and she has taken us to some pretty remote and interesting places including Svalbard, Ukraine, Greenland and Labrador. Normally it’s just the two of us but occasionally our land friends come to visit, some even braving the northern latitudes. After spending the winter in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, our focus this year is West Greenland and Baffin Island. If you have any questions regarding Snow Dragon please comment on any of the posts or inquire at asksnowdragon2@gmail.com.

Greenland: Carey Oer And The Sleeping Bear – Snow Dragon II

Greenland: Carey Oer And The Sleeping Bear. Posted on August 3, 2014. I really should turn the key on the engine and get ready to stow anchor chain but I don’t want to leave Carey Oer and neither does Frances. The small, scattered rocky islands are our last stop in Greenland before we head to Baffin Island and though we know we still have some wonderful experiences ahead of us, it is sad leaving Greenland behind. If I could have it my way, Snow Dragon would be spending this winter in Greenland. Franc...

https://snowdragon2.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/what-do-we-do-at-sea
What Do We Do At Sea? Posted on June 22, 2015. Well celebrate when possible and yesterday we had the perfect excuse, Snow Dragon’s 17th birthday. For the occasion, I decided to make an apple cake, using the recipe I developed a few years ago while wintering in Tromso, Norway. I even had to wake Frances up just to verify that she did not sneak the 3 eggs in while I wasn’t looking. Apple Coconut Raisin Cake. Measurements are US cups, teaspoons and tablespoons). 1 teaspoon baking powder. 6 capfuls dark rum.

Greenland: An Infrared Look At Ilulissat Icefjord – Snow Dragon II
https://snowdragon2.wordpress.com/2014/07/10/ir-3
Greenland: An Infrared Look At Ilulissat Icefjord. Posted on July 10, 2014. I have to admit that I had mixed feelings about spending a significant amount time in Disko Bay, the most popular tourist destination in Greenland. By Greenlandic standards it is crowded both on land and on the water. Especially around Ilulissat, the main town, with tourists trying to get up close to Ilulissat Icefjord, one of the most active glaciers in the world. Once on the lookout platform I could only think about getting clo...

St Pierre: Pit Stop In France – Snow Dragon II

St Pierre: Pit Stop In France. Posted on June 8, 2014. How far out of your way would you go for a freshly baked French croissant? To be honest, our stop in St. Pierre did have more to do with the location of the island in relation to crossing to Greenland. But the thought of French bakeries, cheese and wine did help pass the time as we battled headwinds and fog leaving Nova Scotia. I will tweet during the crossing and if conditions permit, post a blog update. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are commentin...
