Curmudgeonly Bumbly: March 2009
http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A couple of times. Over Christmas I was enthusiastically reporting the joys of the dawn patrol. I talked up the glories of the early morning starts, the sun rising over the mountains, and the fresh tracks before arriving at work at 10am. So you do this a lot? But I returned home to great roommates, who had the deep fryer bubbling with chicken drumsticks and fries. Hell yes! Monday, March 23, 2009. Last week saw me headed to Utah, for a ski vacation with the family. Let's ha...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: February 2012
http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 28, 2012. This is just for practice right. In just three more days I'll be heading off to New Zealand for five weeks of bike touring. Meghan very sensibly recommend that we should go on a test ride before we go. And so it was that we packed absolutely everything we'd be taking onto our bikes and headed out for a little self-propelled adventure from our front door to Porposise Bay Provincial Park. The campsite included this thought-provoking scene:. Well, new frame, plus old wheels, disc...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: April 2009

Thursday, April 23, 2009. A few weeks ago, I had a craving for some saag paneer. The grocery store I was in at the time didn't have any paneer. What is paneer anyway, I asked myself, isn't it some sort of cheese curd? And when you buy poutine, don't they sometimes use mozzerella instead of proper cheese curds? Maybe I could just use mozzerella instead. Friday, April 17, 2009. It may not be the end of fresh snow for the Coast mountains, but it's certainly the end of fresh snow for the North Shore. Thi...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: October 2010
http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 18, 2010. About 15 years ago, I saw a really bad standup comic on T.V. His routine went something like this:. You know how when you're vacuuming, there will be this piece of dirt that you run over several times but the vacuum cleaner doesn't suck it up? And then you'll reach over and pick it up. But then you change your mind and put it back on the floor and run over it one more time, because that's the vacuum cleaner's job.". How can I not think of it? Don't think of a pink elephant!

Monday, March 28, 2011. 166 - Kick ass. 168 - Oh awesome. So I put down the Cheetos and I went on a crash diet. The team was full of very fit dudes. James, whose legendary fitness needs no introduction. Luke, who came along in Revelstoke for a 17km, 1750 vertical meter tour as his rest day after 26 days in a row of skiing, and Andrew, of similar fitness levels and an appetite to taunt Michael Phelps. Not sure why powder skiing is so magical. More ridge walking, skiing, drinking, singing, bootpacking up a...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: October 2009

Saturday, October 31, 2009. Helm creek in the shoulder season. The scenery was fantastic, the semi-frozen creek being particularly delightful. The snow got rather deep, and we had to turn back before we hit our planned view point. I'll have to return in the summer. And see it in all its wildflower glory. Monday, October 12, 2009. Don't let the Republicans see this. Apparently the hospital was out of proper tape for making splints, so I got less useful waterproof tape. Including the ribs (which I never bl...

Friday, February 25, 2011. Ski touring in Roger's Pass. Last week saw me up in Revelstoke to visit with friends and catch my first turns of the season. Though bossy, a plant murderer, and a little crazy, I rather liked the new cat. This trip was planned months in advance, but by sheer luck, a weather window opened with endless blue skies and mellow avalanche conditions. Wednesday, February 2, 2011. After the ride I commented what a full experience Ned's is; the long grind up Old Buck trail, the sweet fas...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: September 2010
http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 14, 2010. I spent the weekend at Whistler at the awesome Dirt Series. Mountain bike camp. Why I never took lessons before is absolutely beyond me. Perhaps I could have saved myself some broken bones if I'd had some instruction earlier. In any case, the quality of the teaching was excellent, and I felt like I made some big breakthroughs. Then it was on to riding the steep rocks on the Lower Whistler Downhill. Fun was had by all. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Actual link to actual updates.

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: May 2012

Monday, May 28, 2012. Oh no It's that time of year again when I talk about nothing but mountain biking. It's looking to be a great season, with mighty bike touring legs pedalling the light mountain bikes up the hills with ease. Last Friday was my first Whistler Bike Park day. How else can you ride 2400m in 5 short hours? Despite a touch of snow, conditions were fabulous and great grins were had by all. Monday, May 7, 2012. And the wetsuits with hoods, gloves, and boots keep you warm even in cold, rainy, ...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: November 2009
http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 24, 2009. A morning, no wait all day ski. Some Slocan valley locals pointed us towards sick slopes. We snuck in some powderific turns before an ominous creak groaned from Eddy's ski. Just in case it's not obvious, yes his ski has been torn asunder.). And so it was that we got to spend the whole day outside, slowly enjoying the lovely scenery as Eddy drifted along one footed back to the car. Crisortunity? Perhaps Eddy will return on Thursday with a split board. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
