A Writer's Blog: December 2010
http://scott-awritersblog.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 27, 2010. So, I'm supposed to be on blog holiday. Well, I am, but I'm not, and such is the state of my life sometimes. On my blog holiday, besides some work, some vacation, cooking a heck of a lot, and eating even more (if that's possible), I've also been reading. I just finished reading Book III (Shadowrise) and Book IV (Shadowheart) in Tad William's. In most cases, the antagonist is an evil person (and/or entity). In most case, at least in my opinion, the reader should dislike the ...

A Writer's Blog: June 2011

Friday, June 3, 2011. Okay, so everyone knows I've been doing family history stuff for the last few months . . . to the exclusion of just about everything else. Trust me on that one. Well, last week I ordered the FamilyTree Maker software from Ancestry. Best $ spent in a long time. The software is nifty beyond nifty and lets me create all sorts of reports - descendant reports, places reports (showing all the places my ancestors have lived - NEAT-O! And, best of all, the Timeline Report. Here's the neat t...

A Writer's Blog: September 2012

Sunday, September 2, 2012. My Best Bud: Procrastination. Sometimes, writing is easy. Other times, it's a slow and painful process that I equate with having a root canal . . . not that I've ever had a root canal. I've just heard the horror stories and . . . That's how the writing process has been for me over the course of the last few months. Okay, a wee bit longer than all that jazz. Okay, it's not been that bad. It's just been . . . Again, don't know why. For the last few days, the words, on a new proje...

A Writer's Blog: January 2011
http://scott-awritersblog.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 31, 2011. Why are multiple read throughs important? Because, last time I checked, I was human and I miss things. Example: Katherine wanted to know if he learned anything. What's wrong with above sentence? Different word, right sound . . . wrong for the sentence! And all was right with the world. Okay, all was right with the sentence. The world, last time I checked, was in sore need of some fixing! Something (knew vs. new). Could make the difference between an agent saying. I bought a new ...

A Writer's Blog: October 2010
http://scott-awritersblog.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 27, 2010. How much distance do you put between yourself and your writing to create objectivity? For me, write rough draft, set it aside for 2 - 3 weeks, then begin edit phase. Complete first edit phase, set aside for 2 - 3 weeks, then begin next edit phase. And so on . . . I mentioned to a friend of mine, who is also a beta reader, about needing to create the necessary distance. What I said, well, wrote, since it was in an email, was this . . . The response I received is . . . She's br...

A Writer's Blog: April 2013
http://scott-awritersblog.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 1, 2013. So much for a final blog post! Not that any one is still following after such a long absence, but . . . Outlines are not something I do. Okay, I sometimes do a conversational outline, as in a few sentences that I want to insert into the novel somewhere, somehow, or someway. I've also been known to jot down a few scenes I want to include as well, but . . . Nothing in-depth. It's just not me. Nope, not even with my current project, if you thought that's where this post is going.

A Writer's Blog: The New Plan
http://scott-awritersblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/new-plan.html
Tuesday, May 31, 2011. So, I've been. Dancing with the ancestors. A lot lately. Okay, more than a lot. It's been a mini-obsession of mine - almost - to the exclusion of all us. So, tomorrow, June 1, 2011, I step back from my. Dance with the ancestors. And step forward to work on my writing. Perhaps I just needed a break. Perhaps I was wallowing in self-pity. Perhaps . . . Well, I don't know why I stepped back from the writing. I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV. I think I just needed a break.
