SockMonkey on Wheels

Recording the adventures of an old and slow recreational cyclist. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Some things happen because you plan for them, and other things just happen. On October 17, I hit 10,000 miles on my bike. My bike's name is Luigi. I bought him in June 2009, and he is the first road bike I've owned since the Schwinn Continental I had when I was in high school. He's a red Specialized Allez, and I named him after one of the characters in Cars. Which can be overgeeked into:. Century 10: Tour de F...

SockMonkey on Wheels: March 2012

http://www.sockmonkeyonwheels.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Recording the adventures of an old and slow recreational cyclist. Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Some rides really get into my head. Foxy's Fall Century is one of those, largely because I broke down mentally at the midpoint the first time I rode it and struggled mightily to finish. The Solvang Century. One other item of note: the DogMagnet. Completed his first century a mere four months after starting cycling, and he did it over an hour faster than I did. I hate him even more. Recording the adventures of an old and slow recreational cyclist. Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Where does the time go? Break out the medal or whatever you get when you reach the pinnacle of Slackerdom: After a long time thinking I should get off my rear and update the blog, I'm actually going to do it. But back to our story, in abbreviated form. Century 7: LA River Ride. The LA River Ride taco plate. Good. And good for you. Century 8: Tour of Napa Valley. Century 9: Amtrak Century. Where does the time go?

Thoughts on a bike: December 2011

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 15, 2011. I haven't been riding much. Been doing too much running! 16 miles each week for the last 2 weeks. I really love running. Maybe I should change the name of the blog! This was my view during my 8 mile long run last Saturday. ARBT. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Curtis Corlew in Bicycle Land. Rules of the Amateur UnPro Cyclist. Simple template. Thoughts on a bike: November 2011

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 28, 2011. Runs, rides, etc. etc. It's a time to relax and just enjoy. No cycling events to train for or travel to. No stress. I just have been riding nowadays and doing quite a bit of running. More running than riding actually. There was an Elvis sighting! It's the 10k for me from now on. Rode 50 miles last Friday with the WAV Riders. It was a great ride. We rode a pace line on the way back and I loved it. I was on my Surly too! And I've been thinking of running more now than cycling.

Thoughts on a bike: September 2011

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 17, 2011. Local cycling events are the best. No long car rides. No hotels. Just get up in the morning, drive a couple of miles and ride! This is my second year to ride the Gold Rush Century events hosted by Folsom Cyclebration. http:/ www.folsomcyclebration.com/. Today was a perfect day for a ride. Forecasted to be a high of mid 80s, the day started out cool but as usual, after the first climb to Beals, we warmed up fast. Our day started out at the Folsom Library / Zoo at 52 Natoma St.

Thoughts on a bike: August 2011

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 21, 2011. Yesterday, we rode the Crater Lake Century. What an epic ride! I haven't really ridden at elevation so I had no idea what to expect. Research and several folks that I talked to told me that there is really nothing I can do to prepare for elevation riding except to overshoot my fitness. So last June, I started training really hard for it. But I still think it didn't prep us enough to how hard Crater Lake Century was. It was the hardest ride that I have ever done. Finally, our firs...

Thoughts on a bike: October 2011

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 22, 2011. Best Bike. Shop. Ever. Three miles to my car, my left pedal broke. I have been using this Quattro Crank Brothers pedals for about a year and a half now I think and it has served me well. I was surprised that a small section of the spring broke. Riding clipped to just one foot was very irritating. So I said to myself, I have plenty of time to replace it. Monday it will be. I picked up my son from boy scouts. Got something to eat. Took a nap. My ride is almost ruined! I have bee...

Thoughts on a bike: About Me

http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

I just love to ride my bike. Preferably, with very few stops. I like to push myself and see what I can accomplish. Training does not scare me. In fact, I thrive in it. I have one simple goal in this part of my life. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Curtis Corlew in Bicycle Land. Rules of the Amateur UnPro Cyclist. Simple template. Template images by jacomstephens.

Kingsland Sockmonkey Orphanage

Sockmonkeys are taking over all aspects of day to day life! Tuesday, February 24, 2015. The $1 sink is in! I'm so happy, I grin every time I pass the bathroom door,. No longer sure those lime green towels were a good choice though). I still have two "hot" taps though, since one of them is off the old sink. Had to smash the old sink to get it out, (whoever installed taps using no-more-nails can go to hell and die). Fortunately I know replacement ceramic labels can be purchased. Posted by yvon malice.
