Every now and then I've been asked how you find out the clockspeed of a Windows machine. To answer, I wrote H H H H H hacked together a little Win32 console application that counts processor ticks over a 1 second delay. The result isn't very accurate, but it does the job on most machines. If you want to build it, the source is here. And is completely free (in all senses). For people of a trusting nature, here. Have you ever been irritated at the way loads of Windows apps insist on using RTF or HTML when you cut and paste text? For example, you want to copy something in Internet Explorer into your Word document. You end up with a whole bunch of stupid fonts and formatting. This is going to be really brief, because I can't be bothered to write much. I recently wanted to combine two machines - one was a linux box, the other ran Win2k. I decided to just stick both HDDs into one machine. Windows obviously wouldn't cope if the hardware was altered beneath it, so I simply put the old linux disk in as slave to the Windows primary master. LILO can't boot Win2k, or at least Win2k won't boot from LILO, so I let the Windows boot loader do the work. Using Knoppix.
